Project Farm Tests - 3/8 " Socket Wrenches

I dunno, I feel like destructive ratchet testing was kinda fun 10 to 15 years ago but now it's just another use-a-cheater-til-it-pops scenario.....YAWN

As is always pointed out there's a lot more that goes into ratchet preferences: COO, feel in your hand, overall finish, parts availability, warranty support blah blah blah

At this point I feel like we're just crashing half ton pickups into a wall at 100mph and pretending we can declare a winner. Really we just wanna FSU....... 'cause, why not????

"Hold my beer and"..... OOWWW!! that hurt

IMO good for entertainment value only. Ratchets can take a while to "break in" before they feel right and they usually loose a lot of the stiffness they had when new, some can also benefit from being lubricated when new. I like the Williams round heads a lot but new they were stiff as an oak board, a little lube and use got them really nice and they have stayed that way.
The Snap on are great my only complaint with them is the selector being excessively proud of the head. Koken and Nepros have the lowest back drag of any ratchet but he didn't test them. Breaking them at over 200 lb.ft is asinine,

I just watched the last few minutes and of course most fail when the anvil shears. Then he looks at the teeth and pawls on each for damage......

......BUT if you've truly sheared the anvil who cares about the teeth because IME rebuild kits typically include all or most internals. I guess it might speak to metallurgy but no one's reusing any part with teeth if they sheared the anvil

My 3/8 flex head Pittsburgh Pro is my most used ratchet mainly because of the feel in your hand and the feel of the teeth, not too coarse and not too fine. I pick it over my snap on almost every time. I have been using it for 5 years or more now every day.

The HF composite 3/8 gets a lot of use. It's comfortable and convenient. Next in line is an old Snap-On, because it's a bit shorter so it removes an oil filter under an intake manifold that everything else bumps into.

Oh well, hard to explain why I'd prefer using one sometimes and another other times, but it has nothing to do with what PF tested for.

Fast talking Mr. Project Farm agrees with you 100%. All his "test" videos are accompanied by this written disclaimer:

Interesting video…it’s defenetly an interesting test methodology but I kind of like the breakdown per price; kind of confirms of what I thought about the mid range priced wratchets; they are built no better sometimes.

The Williams one I’m interested in, I like the construction.

I would say Gearwrench takes the cake for me, if high torque is not a concern. Who takes it up to 200 ft lbs anyways. lol
