I have a 2005 Buick 3.1L V6 Century that I am considering a switch from DEXCOOL to Prestone Low Tox Coolant - I have a few questions :

1. Is the PG based Prestone Low Tox ok to use in all GM vehicles ?
2. Is it compatible with DEXCOOL (i.e. small ammounts of DEXCOOL from over flow tank ) ?
3. How many miles / months is the Prestone Low Tox coolant rated for ?
Thanks ...any other advice for making a switch from DEXCOOL would be appreciated . * Please Note : My Buick has not had any gasket trouble (yet) as GM changed material in 2003 (I have a 2005). I changed DEXCOOL out every 2.5 years / 35,000 miles and never had any trouble with it - main reason for switch is simply to use something safer for the environment .

I'm all with helping the environment, however if it were mine I'd keep Dex-cool in it. If you want to help the enviro. you can stop changing your coolant so often. I recommend every five years on Dex.

The normal Dexcool is fine, just don't drain it on the ground.

The low tox ones are slightly less efficient at transferring heat than the normal ones.

Stick with Dexcool and deal with old coolant properly.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that once the stuff has been circulating through your engine for tens of thousands of miles it's plenty toxic.
