Premium Guard usually builds filters for Microgard Select, Carquest Premium, Parts Plus Extended, ETC. I've noticed that they were not all the same. What is the deal? Are some of these made by someone else? Do they meet the same specs?

Interesting, never really looked into that because SuperTech Toyota cartridge filters are great quality and cost only $2.97.

FWIW, online photos may not represent what you see in the store, especially with Toyota/Lexus filters. The MSL 57173s I picked up online a few weeks ago were not the same as the ones in the store, and they didn’t match the online photo either. It seems that house brands using PG filters will sometimes change filter style and construction here and there without any rhyme or reason.

Did your MSL filters have plastic end caps like the above? Or were they the element only, sealed ends style like the OEM Toyota?

One was similar to the OEM, one was similar to the MSL above -- combination plastic end cap with trimmed media in the center. The second one is what's currently on the shelf at my local O'Reilly.

Did they actually say MicroGard and have a MSL part number on the end cap of the filter?
