Well guys, I was debating greatly weather I wanted to switch our 07 Acura RDX turbo over to PP from the factory fill M1 and I did this past oil change.

All I can say is the motor is a lot quieter and smoother!

Hope PP holds up :) I may do a UOA on my next batch of oil (gotta get rid of all the M1 from the system with this OC)

Thanks folks! I may switch my Prelude over from Amsoil ASL to PP :P have both my cars take the same oil will be easy to stock up on PP when its on sale.

More kudos for PP. Man is this oil great or what? I seem to be the only person with problems with this oil.

assume went with the 5w30? That weight (or grade for aehaas) seems to hold up pretty well and gives good reports

Good choice. Probably will do as good or better than M1. I'd put Amsoil on the list as another choice for the RDX although no official approval is given.

Amsoil is not cost efficient. Amsoil for the most part is associated with extended change intervals, I'm going by my cars maintenence minder system so its calibrated to calculate the oil life based on M1 among other things.

This past winter I had a 5500km oil change! No way in [censored] I'm paying the premium on Amsoil for this low of an oci.

My prelude on the other hand I do the oil change every 8000km so I don't mind paying a bit more for ASL.

Edit: BTW, ASL also does a superb job on the prelude in terms of noise and keeping the motor clean.

Ya 5w30 is the only one which passess hto-06 standard so thats what I put in. I wouldn't put in a 20 weight oil especially in a turbo application.

True Mau, but if SSO gave you longer drains based on oil analysis, it would be more cost efficient if you changed the oil yourself. I have foudn the price people pay to have synthetic installed very high at most Acura dealers and quick lube places. I think you are making a good choice and have a good plan. I would really like to see how the SSO holds up in this motor which seems to be brutal on oil.

My Honda dealer charges me $10 labor and I provide the M1 EP and M1 filter. .02

I do my own oil changes :) but still prefer to follow the maintenance minder.

You gotta see how easy it is to change the oil on the RDX (very simple), on the prelude you can burn your arm :P

I made the same switch in my Scion - same comments, smoother and quieter when compared to M1. All this for about $2/qt!

Now if only I can find PP in 0w30, I will be set!

Sadly there is no Platinum 0W-30, I would definitely buy it if they made it, but they don't.

I don't know why, but when I spend money on "synthetic" oil I like the crazy low pour points and cranking viscosity of Mobil 1 because that is the real advantage of synthetic for me.

I provide the oil and filter, and then do the oil change my self and have a beer while it drains.

Depends on the car. Both of mine are easy and so is my dad's Santa Fe (I'm not a small guy and I almost don't even have to lift the Santa Fe). However, I've gotten majorly [censored] off at the skid plate on my mom's Hyundai Tucson in the past. Seems like I always miss at least one bolt on the thing, and there are these plastic screws on it that don't look like they even screw into anything. I'd happily pay someone I trusted $10 to change the oil in that thing for me, but my mom always complains that the quickie lube places never take off the skid plate and spill oil all over it when they change the filter. So, I just do it for her.

The bolts on my mom's Malibu are a complete pain to get off, because they're really rusty. One of them appears stripped and won't come off so I just have to pull the plastic down half ways to get to the filter. The Kia I work on has a filter in the worst spot, you have to fully extend your arm through a maze of pipes and between the engine and catalytic converter and other things to get to it. The Daewoo and my Acura are the easiest to work on, from what I've seen. The Malibu isn't really bad, except those bolts on the plastic splash guard.

I totally agree with you Third! I`ve never once in my life paid for an oil change. Every car I`ve ever owned, both my bikes, and my lawnmowers always got changed by me and me only. Always ran Castrol GTX 20W50 in my bikes and lawnmowers. My first few cars always got what was ever on sale (usually house brand. Exxon Superflow was always cheap back then. I used that most of the time). Then I always put either Valvoline 20W50 or Castrol GTX 20W50 (and, gulp,a classic "orange" filter) in my 280Z,Z31 Turbo, and 3000GT`s. Two VERY fine oils.

My car I have now is soooooooo easy to change the oil on that I can usually do it in about 10 min. Oil filter is right next to the oil pan. Like you,I have a blast changing oil!

I never knew you had a 280Z or the older 300ZX. Great cars! The 3000GT is a really cool, unique car too. I see them around once in a while, but they hold their resale value really really well. I couldn't afford one.

I especially love the VR-4 Turbos, fantastic cars. By the way, what happened to the 40 grade M1 you had in your car? Didn't you just change it to 10W-40 not too long ago?

Yeah man I pounded the living sh** out my 280Z (`77). That car was indestructable. My Z31 turbo was an `86. Probably the most fun car I`ve ever had. That car had more gadgets than any car I`ve ever seen. Gauge array was awesome! It had stock gauges for turbo boost, oil pressure, oil temperature, coolant temperature, and amperage/voltage. The seats had pumps that would pump up the sides, back, and seat part with the touch of a few buttons. It had a 3 position switch for the suspension (soft, med, and firm). It even had this chick`s voice that would tell you if any of the doors, hatch, hood was open,if you left your headlights on,if you were low on fuel, etc. The T-Tops were so addicting that I would have them off in the middle of the winter, wearing a coat with the heater on full blast while I was driving around!

On to oil...........I decided to save the M1 HM oil for my gf`s Olds (it has in the 130k mileage range, give or take a few). Her engine`s sludged up pretty bad (she bought it from an old couple who lived in the country. Car`s in mint condition, but the engine`s internals are a bit dirty, probably from lack of oil changes and dusty country roads all it`s life,so I figured it would be a good oil for her car (which I normally put Valvoline 10W40 in) and went back to good old Valvoline dino in my Z.
