I'm giving serious consideration to changing out the power steering fluid in both vehicles (1999 Suburban 5.7L with 120,000 and 1994 Olds Cutlass Supreme 3.1L with 187,000). Any recommendations as to what to replace the old PS fluid with? I have a fluid extractor, so that's what I'm planning to use to get the old fluid out. Thanks in advance for the help!

Picked up a litre of Amsoil ATF for my Dakota's power steering reservoir. I have to check to see how much of it that it will take...

Any syntheitc atf.

Or not. If it specs Power Steering Fluid, use it. If it specs ATF, use it.

I'm using SuperTech Power Steering Fluid. Cheap @ $2/qt.

RedLine PSF is a good GM p/s fluid replacement; I'm using it in an '01 Olds Intrigue and I have no problems to report.

Check the label for its compatibility listing.

My manuals for an '02 Jeep Liberty call for "Power Steering Fluid." I have used either Valvoline SynPower or Maxlife PSF. Emptying the reservoir and refill at each oil change with a baster.

HOWEVER, I understand that a Technical Service Bulletin states that now ATF+4 is used and recommended also for back-service. I haven't changed and haven't had any problems.

But that's me... I still use the specified Type F ATF in the steering on my Ford although, there also, they've back-specified Dexron/ Mercon.

Good point. I havent seen a GM product spec an ATF for p-steering fluid in years.

So if I'm reading these posts right, you guys are saying to go with PS fluid. If that's the case, what would you recommend beyond Redline?
