Out: VRP 5w30 and champ PH2867xl 4,196 miles on oil

In: Valvoline EP Synthetic 5w30 and champ PH2867 xl

Scored some autozone closeout deals on the Valvoline EP so figured I’d run it. Plan on running this 4k as well.

2009 new to the family Honda Pilot with 3.5 liter V-6.

Out unknown black oil at 146,000 miles. Castrol jobber filter with pale white ADBV. When I pulled off the filter, no oil drained back from the galleries.

In: 4.3 liters Pennzoil PUP 5W30.
Napa Gold 7356 filter. It’s a PG filter. It measures 2.5 “ in diameter and is 3.5 "long.

The drain plug was torqued way too high and so was the oil filter. Luckily, I was able to get the filter off with an old filter wrench that was really too large but contorted enough to get a bite. A new wrench will be ordered soon.

The clearance to get to the dipstick and oil fill hole is ridiculously tight. I had to place a funnel in the hole and then place another funnel feeding into it. Also, I used a flexible oil thingy to keep the oil from draining directly onto a crossmember.

Enjoy the pics.

There’s a long/slender gray funnel I’ve got that works great for these 3.5 Honda J series engines. I’ll try to find a link, but you’ll know it when you see it. No need for a two filter setup like you had to improvise. Yikes about what you pulled off. Nice job on the oil/filter.

I use this when an oil or transmission fill hole is in a wingnutty place:

Did the annual oil/filter change on my Challenger today. Went old school and removed/cleaned the splash shield and drained the plug rather than using the top-sider. Added some 3 year old M1 with a M1 filter. All went well, but going back to the MityVac next year. It’s just too easy. Although, the splash shield really needed a cleaning.

Wasn’t that Havoline Pro-RS the plant based oil Chevron contracted out from a 3rd party (don’t recall companies name)?

Red brick garage floor that's awesome but must be a pain.
