2000 Lincoln Town car with 128.5k

- oil changed at 125k. Takes 6 qts
(burns 1 qt every 2000 miles)

- Valv MaxLife synthetic blend 10w-40 5 qts and 1 qt Lucas oil stabilizer

- Top offs with Supertech dino 10w-40

- Purolator classic filter

*** At 129.5k I will be changing the PCV Grommet along with the PCV valve to see if the oil stops burning (Scotty Kilmer advice). Also I will be putting in Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 10w30 with a Pure1 filter. No more lucas!***

4 qts RT6 and a qt of M1 racing 4T 10W40 (truck oil plus bike oil = car oil, right?!?) in the subaru with a can of LM MOS2 (first treatment; really quieted down the valvetrain noises). 4500 miles in and no top offs needed. R4T added for Z and P...and it was only $6 with orielly coupon.

Wanted to get rid of a few partially filled bottles so I blended M1 15W-50, M1 10w30, and Castrol Edge Titanium 0W-20 to create something in the high 30 weight at 100C and between 5W and 10W at 0C, according to my oil viscosity blending calculator. Put the blend in my wife's 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix with 167K miles on it with no issues and my wife even commented that it seems quieter than usual although I can't tell the difference.

Valvoline VR-1 conventional or Syn has proven to be a great oil in my BMW bikes and I got a bunch for almost free in 2013.

But 10w30 might be "thin" and 20W-50 a bit "thick"...so I use 2 quarts of each!

OA on this mix all look great!

Not much of a mix but on my grandfather's 96 Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0L I last changed the oil with 5 quarts of Chevron Supreme HM 10w40 & 1/2 a quart of Valvoline MaxLife NextGen 10w40.

The Lincoln technically has a mix, though it is majority Edge 5w30. It has 2 qts Mobil 1 5w30 and a 1/2 qt of Mobil 1 0w40 that were leftovers.

In 2011 hyundai sonata se 2.0t mixes every oci except first couple from brand new. Buddy's turbos were dead from conventional, low additive, long oci. So I buy whatever "synthetic" is on sale (group 3 and better) and add whatever high zn/phos moly group 4 and 5 I have, shading towards 0w30 heavy in winter, and 5w-40 in summer. 5k oci.

Mix of:

1Qt QSUD 5W20
1.25Qt QSDefy 5W30
1Qt Castrol GTX SynBlend 5W20
0.75Qt MMO

These were just leftovers. I added the MMO to get to the required amount of oil for the vehicle (4 Quarts). Here's the VOA of that mix:

Shell Helix Ultra 5 litres of unadulterated 5w-40 straight from the jug into the engine reason is I like it simple and convenient.

The 3.8 L V6 buick engine is whisper silent and smooth.

5 qts of 5w-20 Total Quart Future 9000
with 2 qts of the same brand but at 0w-20

All leftovers for a 2015 F350 6.2L gasser

Frankenmix that's been working for me lately:

2 dashes angostura bitters
1 ounce sweet vermouth
2 1/2 ounces bourbon
1 maraschino cherry

Fill a short glass 2/3 full with ice. Add bitters, vermouth, and bourbon. Add cherry (and crush it against the side of the glass with a spoon). Stir.

The OCI is shorter with this combination, but each change is more fun than the last.

I blend for a number of reasons including maximizing an oils VI and increasing the AW additive levels of the final blend.
One of my fav' very economical blends is a 60/40 mix of TGMO 0W-20 and M1 0W-40 to produce a light (HTHSV 3.0-3.1cP) 200+ VI 0w30 with above average AW additive levels. You can't buy a 0w30 these attributes you can only make it yourself. A series of UOAs of these blend is below:

My personal final blends (see signature) are ultimately based on maintaining a certain minimum oil pressure which is related maximum oil temp's. I also use RL Break-In Additive to boost the phos' level to what I want.

I had in my car one quart of Rislone, two quarts of PYB 40 weight, and three of O'Reilley 5w30 dino. It used this STP E-Core filter.

I ran it for 7500 miles and just replaced it with PYB 10w30 dino with a MicroGard MGL3600 filter.`

I'll mix mainly to get rid of odds and ends in the beaters.
The Focus saw a mix of 3 qts GTX 5W-20 plus two qts Meijer HM 10w30 and the '99 Legacy got three qts Maxlife 5w30 plus a quart and a half of Synpower 10w30.
I avoid mixing for the winter, since low temperature performance may be degraded due to an unanticipated interaction of different VIIs.
Before I thought that I knew better, I used to mix oils freely and nothing bad ever happened.

What's more likely and what I'd be more concerned about is an oil (a blend or not) loosing it's low temp' performance with an extended oil drain and the only way to know if that's happening is with an oil pressure gauge.
A UOA won't help much even if a KV40 test is ordered.
