Been looking to upgrade the receiver in the bedroom to something a bit more modern than the 2007 vintage HK that didn't have network connectivity or AirPlay support. It also lacked ARC, which is a nice feature and of course didn't support 4K.
Started keeping an eye on FB Marketplace and Kijiji in case something popped up and it did! Folks on here have been big on endorsing Yamaha for good quality at a reasonable price so when I saw this AVENTAGE RX-A730 come up, I made an inquiry and was able to get it for $175.00.
Supports bi-amping, ARC, AirPlay and 4K, which is nice, since my bedroom TV is a 4K Samsung unit with ARC. It's hooked up the B&W 802's and seems to be sufficient to drive them in this space, which isn't as demanding as the living room.
So, here's what came out:
And here's what went in:
Upgrading the firmware:
Tested with some AirPlay to the TV and was happy with the results!
The unit isn't insanely high powered, it's 90W/channel RMS @8ohms 0.09%THD, but that's OK. With HDMI-CEC turned on, it comes on and off with the TV and the TV remote controls its volume properly, which is what I was looking for. All-in-all, appears to be a good purchase and the price, was, in my opinion, quite good.
