This site http://www.gadgetonline.com/TransFlush.htm#Index was shown to me by a friend. In it (cooler line flush machines section), the author gives his opinion that T-tech flushes are not as effective as we would like to think they are. The first (I think we all agree on this one) has to do with the fact that the transmission pan isn’t usually dropped and the filter replaced. The second has to do with his contention that a lot of fluid isn’t cycled back into the cooler. It only goes through the transmission and back into the pan. This results in fluid dilution instead of replacement.

What does everyone think?

The cooler is a bypass type. There are plenty of bleedoffs for ATF to return to the pan mixing.

The biggest deficits are the technician doing the job and the budget of the owner.

You should always drain your transmission before a flush. Filter change, if never done yet, should be performed depending on mileage and driver style.

Everyone trying to locate the cheapest flush usually doesn't end up with a proper flush.

Another thing to consider, regular ATF maintenance will more than make up for any fluid mixing.

Well to correct the deficit?

Do as I and many have recommended here. Have the techs drop and clean the pan and install new strainer filter and gasket prior to flush (and topping it off in the meantime with cheapest stuff on the floor)

Then add your own synthetic and there you go.

I reject the dilution assertion you state. Although 100% new fluid is not going to happen (mixing will inevitably occur)

T-Tech is superior to the standard pan service hands down.

There is only 1 way to completely change the fluid in an auto trans. Disassemble the transmission, and replace the torque converter. Anything else will be a bit of a compromise. But if the flush is done properly, 95% of the fluid should be exchanged in the process. I never end a flush until the fluid is BRIGHT red, and has been for at least a few quarts worth. A normal flush for me is 4 gallons of fluid. The average auto trans hold about 1.5 gallons, including the converter.

If 4 gallons isn't enough exchange, then I don't know what is. I also prefer to do a pan drop before hand, but most customers don't want to spend the extra money. Either way, a fluid exchange is always a thousand times better than nothing at all.

wow, four gallons. if your using $7 a bottle redline D4 synthetic like I am. that would get kinda expensive.
