Porulator classic , gasket keeps leaking.

I've had a couple of Purolators develop minor seeping gasket leaks in the last couple of years.
Hand tightened them in an application where it's pretty hard to overtighten them by hand.
Along with the validated media tearing reports, makes you wonder what's become of the quality of what was once a very well regarded filter.

I havent ever had a purolator leak. And I go through a lot of them.

If you want to stay with Purolator, try a P1 and see what happens. If not, try a few other manufacturers and then see how many of them leak. I have a feeling its not the filters.

Product quality changes, unfortunately.
Still use them, no leaks.

I've installed tons of Purolator made Valvoline filters in my days in the quick lube business with no issue. It might be possible you have a burr or something scratching the gasket? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause a leak in that many filters IMHO.

I haven't had any problems with them leaking either, and that includes Purolator filters and other brands made by Purolator (Bosch, for example).

Best thing for Bosch is that they are made by Champion, not 'Tear'olator

it's ok, jk_636 will still defend the 16-and-pregnant stars as "virgins" when it comes to Purolator. However, check the gasket and the sizing of the filter... sometimes it can be "re-boxed" by some dingbat or just a bad gasket.

Bosch filters have been made by Purolator for many years.

+1. Lots of misinformation here along with the wise remarks.

AFAIK, 'our' Bosch filters are made by Purolator just for the American market since they are already made here and there was no reason to reinvent the wheel. Bosch filters for Europe and elsewhere are of a different design and manufacturer. It's all about costs and technical partnerships and/or who owns who at the time.

Futuredoc a quick search will show you just as many filters without tears. Give it a rest.

^^^ What people want to see is zero reports of torn filters at all. You can't "justify" or "offset" a product's failure record with non-failures.

If 50 few people died from eating ecoli tainted hamburgers and word got out that "burger chain X" was the only place it was happening at, then guess what, the mass majority of people won't be going to "burger chain X" to get a hamburger.

Everyone knows that Mcdonalds uses metal end caps and burger king uses...wait...what are we arguing about?

Oh, I remember.

It was about how purolators USED to tear. Havent seen any lately have you? Nothing to recite but old news.

LOL ... yeah, that's because nobody here uses them anymore. How can there be any newer filters around to be cut open by BITOG members.

I will say, that seriously I have not seen any cut open Purolators here in the six months that have a date code that is newer than July of 2014. So that pretty much tells me nobody here is buying new Purolators anymore.

You need to step in only a few steps to the return counter. It probably is due to they haven't torn yet to relieve the poor flowing media and faulty bypass valve, so the gasket leaks it out.

This guy right here still buys purolator, and posts at least one every 3-5 months. They are still out there, and rest assured Im still using them.

This makes no sense. Try again.

Not true ... there are others on here besides jk_636 who are still using/buying Purolator filters (Classic and P1) ... I have seen posts on here which show that.
