It is either legal or it it isn't .

I don't care what irritates the police ... they irritate me .

The light color is white with a hint of blue and since the wattage doesn't excess what the headlights were designed for, i no longer blind people and haven't gotten a flash in years.

Its these 10 and 12k hids that shine EXTREME blue or even purple that really [censored] me off myself. Its just TOO blue.

You got high beam flashes because your housing was not made for those types of bulbs. My 2011 Infiniti with HID has never been flashed in the 3500 miles since I got it. Mine are a pure white on the road, not the [censored] purple or blue.

You must be doing something that irritates them too, it sounds like.

U guys know those light up front where u can only use it, for off road only ? mostly I saw was on truck

anyway this dude turn it on and follow me whole time, very closer, I just give him a middle finger all the way home.

Honestly the OE White HID lights that come on most cars are fine. IT's the aftermarket fake "HID"s that are a real blue color that are horrible. Most HIDs are really white, but they look "bluish" because they are higher on the color spectrum, more towards the blue, further from red/yellow. But they aren't really blue.

However, the idiot kids in the eclipses, civics, etc with the blue tinted HIDs need to be punched in the face.

^ It's not so much the blue tint, as the poorly retrofitted blue tinted HIDs that are the problem. When someone else's HIDs are brighter than my high beams from an oncoming car's perspective, there's a problem.

Few days ago, I saw a semi with a real HID. I had seen aftermarket HID on semi or buses before but this time it was the OEM. I am usually good at recognizing OEM HID from aftermarket HID even from a distance and that semi definitely had a nice OEM HID on it.

I hate people with improperly setup HIDs. When done right with a projector they can be great lights. Those eBay lights are junk. You might be able to see better at night, but blinding other drivers doesn't increase your safety. In driving classes they teach you to look at the white line if an oncoming car as bright lights. Studies show that when we are blinded we will actually move towards the light. This has caused lots of head on collisions.

yeah this thread should have been named properly...

"Police getting irritated with improperly installed HID's"

(or tinted bulbs)

Police should perhaps enforce the colour-issue on HID users, same as they did with blue-tinted headlight bulbs 10+ years ago. They irritate my eyes when oncoming purely because of their tint.

I run 4300k HIDs in my cars. They look like brighter versions of a normal headlight. I don't aim they crazy up and I don't get flashed. I've driven past my wife's car coming home from work and her headlights don't bother me. I highly doubt the police would pull either of us over for our headlights.

The biggest problem is not the HID lighting its-self, but rather all of the re-based kits that take a HID bulb, and attach it to a halogen base that allows you to install it into a halogen headlamp. Then instead of the OEM 4100k, 4300k, and 4800K bulbs the marketing geniuses say hey lets market 8, 10, and 12,000k bulbs yay Ultra-violet. Automotive manufacturers have toned down the cut-off and color, due to complaints.

yes they are irritating. In PA off color headlights will and do get stopped, but HID conversions (with ballasts) no matter how poorly done are legal, unfortunately

I don't mind factory HID headlamps at all, and I LOVE the sharp cutoff of both E-code lamps and HIDs. What just CHAPS my hide is the super-bright, over-wattage blue-tinged regular bulbs that people stick in their regular headlamps that *don't* have a sharp cutoff and and also in their fog lamps, and then proceed to drive around with the fog lamps on in clear weather. C'mon, guys... you're not fooling anyone. Everyone knows your 95 Accord didn't come with HIDs.

If I were a cop, I'd pull those guys over every time I had the spare time to do so, and I'll bet some cops do.

Actually the new LED bars destroy my night vision. I think they are starting to get dangerous with their output levels.

I'd say that a lot of newer cars' brake lights (both LED and regular) are creeping up to that point with me also. Its amazing how painfully bright some brake lights are these days. Sitting behind a car like that at a long traffic light is very unpleasant.

Slightly ot but has anyone else noticed a lot more cars with the very, very stupid purple headlights? It used to be I didn't see these very often but now it's almost everyday. Why on earth would you even want that? At least the super blue is neat for about .5s. I don't give the rose tint even that much enthusiasm.

The super-bright LED brake lights on a lot of newer cars should really be required to auto-dim when it's dark out, as they can be as bad as high beams to the face after sitting at a traffic light for a while. Heck, if I'm on flat ground, I'll usually be nice and pop it in neutral so I can take my foot of the brakes and save the person behind me some eyestrain.

The LED light bars on police cars are here to stay. Studies have shown the number of emergency vehicles hit since switching to LED has dropped a bunch. You don't have to search hard to find such articles. The biggest group of people to see the LED lights better are drunk drivers which are a big cause of public safety officer fatalities on an emergency scene. To add to the HID lighting, it seems motorcycle lighting has gotten bad too but for the safety sake of the motorcycle rider.
