LOL, started the van with VWB in -35 the other morning. Started right up

It is worth pointing out that wind chill is a "living" phenomenon - your car, an inanimate object, cannot experience colder temperature through blowing wind. It simply cools off more quickly, but will ultimately settle at whatever temperature is on the thermometer.

Ohio has been well underneath 32 degrees for the last three weeks. Have not had any start-up problems, and have even done a few J-turns out of the driveway through the snowbanks!

Temp is dropping as I type this. We're at 9 F currently. PU530 in the crank, maxlife in the trans should be good!

I have NAPA Conv. (VWB cousin) 5W-20 in the crank, started just fine last week with the -5 weather.

Utter nonsense.

It was -17 here this morning. I had to run an errand and the car started just fine. When I returned I went out and, just to see if it would start, fired up my 1947 N tractor. Along with the original 6 volt system, has Rotella 15w40 in it. The thermometer in the shop said -11.

Turn over a bit slow? Sure. But the "antiquated" dino did just fine in every case.

It's supposed to be -10 most of the day today. I have an errand to run around 1:00, and I may take the pickup which has been sitting outside, and hasn't been started in a couple weeks. I'm quite certain it will start just fine with that antiquated dino that it has in it.

Too true! But I like my body to stay in the upper 90s.

0w30 year round for us.....

26 this morning in my part of Texas. Not fit for man or beast.

Only getting down to the single digits F here, so the conventional Pennzoil High Mileage 5w30 in my daughter's Impreza RS should be fine. That's "warm" compared to the Midwest!

stamford CT here. 98 corolla. pure 1 oil filter. its been warm past 24 hours, in fact thier was fog here overnight.like early spring, when it should be 42 degrees, its like 55. but temp is dropping today. past month temps at night have been around 22 degrees F.
Did my oil change last month, pennzoil platinum. what i have noticed, in this 22 degree cold, (5w30 oil) it still hesitates just a tad to start. never had that heistation with valvoline synthtic. i got the platinum becuase according too piqua it was thinner. and here i discovered the vavoline synth started much smoother n fast n easier than platinum...
for the record* i left quart of super tech 10w30 dino in the back seat. other day it was like 25 F...letting car warm up, picked it up. the oil was not moving* so yes! as the post says..get your synthetic out!

i thought about trying a ow20 or 5w20...obviously im not gunna empty the platinum out, only have a few hundred miles on it. was using supertech 10w30 dino, september till december. november came along, and it got unseasoanlby cold here, like 32 degrees F at the time. starting the corolla, you can hear in the engine, the oil hasnt moved fast enough too the cams..weird grinding noise* wont make that mistake again! clearly the 10w30 was doing as the 5w30 in the backseat was...freezing into molasses.
