'97 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4L(4g64)-- I am unable to get NGK wires locally and am looking for suggestions as to a good alternative that I can find at AZ, AAP, O'Reilly, or Napa. The reason I wanted NGK was due to quality and fit (OEM fit vs. universal). Any suggestions... this is my first diy tune-up.

I had good luck with Bosch wires on a '99 Civic. The fit wasn't perfect since the wires were a tad longer than the stockers, but it was certainly acceptable and the performance was just fine.

Bosch is probably going to be the choice if I can't find NGK or Denso locally. I guess I'm not worried so much about length in regards to fit (within reason of course), but more so about connection fit. I've heard stories of universal fit connections not being the best in some cases.

I just called the local Mitsu stealership... $78 for OEM wires

and he can't even tell me who makes them.

Anyone with thoughts on NAPA brand or Borg-Warner?

I did some searching at the websites I use for discount tune-up parts and the NGK wires were in the $62-70 range. So the dealer isn't *too* high at $78.

Its up to what quality you want. I always use NGK and am never dissapointed by them. I'm sure other brands would work, but these are the same as OEM for my cars and are worth it.

https://www.mitsubishiparts.com/oe_parts_catalog.html

that site had supposedly OEM wires for $47.

I can get you a set of the ME80 (4406) NGK wires for about $60 shipped UPS ground. The import oriented parts store I work for has pretty good prices on the NGK line of plugs and wires.

E-mail me if interested.

I should have mentioned that I was planning to do the tune-up this weekend so I was hoping to find a good (reasonably priced) alternative at a retail auto parts store.

I am glad to hear positive feedback on NGK wires. I've already bought the V-power plugs so the addition of the wires should be just what this 132k mi engine needs. I am also contemplating changing out the distributor cap and rotor... any recommendations there?

This is my daughters car and seeing how this weekend is her high school prom, I may not get to do the work anyway.

TomH, I may be e-mailing you in the next couple days (approx $60 sounds good to me). Thanks for the help!
