I have a question, I figured this is where it would be seen the most so this is where I am putting my question Here is why I said please don't get mad at me Has anybody noticed how the quality of Walmart car batteries has declined terribly to the point where they only seem to last one year? I have had 3 brand new batteries from Walmart die after 12-13 months One was replaced under warranty the replacement has died after 12 months The brand new one I put in my mother's Ford Flex on 2/27/15 is now dead I also know someone who works as a customer service manager at Walmart and they have been getting alot back in the same age range that are bad Back in Jan of 2010 I put a Walmart battery in my Huyndai Azera when we traded it in 9/2015 the battery was still going strong Does anybody know if they switched manufacturers or is this what is happening with all batteries? The Ford Flex is still under warranty but the other one is not (because it is a warranty replacement) don't ask me why Who has good quality batteries that last? This will be in a Dodge Dakota with 3.8 and synthetic that sits outside in the winter in Southern MN (here is the oil part) Thanks, Glen Murra

I have a Walmart battery in my Silverado. Starts great even at -30. I'm on year number 3 on it. I would buy another in a heart beat.

Most batteries don't last like they used to. Back in early 00's I'd buy a battery and go 9-10 years on them. Now I get about 3.

If you're in an area that gets really cold, like many places in MN, then make darn sure you're not letting the battery get close to going low on charge. When the battery is low on charge the point at which the electrolyte freezes at raises. If you let this happen you can kiss the battery goodbye.

I have 2x walmart batteries currently in my vehicles and they're working great so far. One is 4 years old and the other 2 years old and they're showing no signs of giving up anytime soon.

Wrong forum... nice try with throwing "synthetic" in the post though, even though it's irrelevant to the crux of your post.

Which ones are you getting ? ,

The EverStart yellow stripe is a 3 yr free replacement battery ,

Out my way they are also carrying a generic 1 free replacement year called ValuePower

For a few dollars more your better off getting the yellow stripe EverStart

With that track record you may want to go elsewhere. I prefer Interstate. Or used to....

All are the EverStart. Also, I new it was wrong forum but thought I would get the most answers by putting it here. Didn't put the reference to synthetic to sneek anything in,it was so the people knew what was in it & where the pickup was parked at, so no conspiracy there. Please read the title. Thanks, Glen Murra

I put in a NAPA legend recently into the IS after it failed to start (the lights were on for an hour or so). The Panasonic was 9 years old at least. The Northwest power star ( local budget brand i guess) in my Jeep that I got for 60 bucks is still chuggin along since 2005, drained dead a number of times, once with the engine running, I guess over 620 watts of lighting was a little much for it and the alternator lol. I expect the legend to hold up at least as well as those batteries, but sounds like I'm dreaming.

I got over 13 years out of a Diehard battery in my van. I'm hoping the AAP battery that replaced it lasts half that long. From what I understand they don't make batteries like they used to.

Was in Walmart recently and noticed Johnson Controls is now sourcing batteries from Saudi Arabia, presumably through their MEBCO joint venture.

It was part of the EverStart line as well, not the cheapo $50 value line.

I have always had good luck with WM batteries, they only carry the Everstart line where I shop. I do notice in the CR ratings that brands will vary wildly in ratings for different sizes, maybe the OPer got a size where WM does not do very well?

Is that why their vent cap design has changed on some of their batteries? I have seen two that looked suspiciously like an East Penn design- but they had "Distributed by Johnson Controls" printed on their labels.

Try charging them for 4-8 hours on a 2amp trickle charger before you install them.

The one I noticed used the typical JCI case for that size.
