Please deliver us from global warming.....

"Naval oranges" haha!

If people want to say that global warming isn't as bad as many say, i have no problem with that. However to flat out deny that its happening at all is just mind boggling.

XOM has been paying off scientists to refute the claims. I bet FoxNews hasn't even reported on this yet. LOL. They are probably drumming up a war with Iran. "YOU DECIDE!!!" OMG!! Run....lol.

Who here actually said that our climate doesn't change over time?

I stand by what I have always thought - just because a group of so called "experts" agree on something, doesn't make it so. There is no total breakthrough here - and that's the humorous thing about buster's idiotic attempt at nose rubbing in the caca. This is just a UN Panel Report - with PREDICTIONS.....ah the predictions of men. So often wrong.

Yeah, that's a competent/non-biased source for good science.

Of course the EPA people will go with it, they have to justify their jobs.

A few years ago I saw a special where scientists were core drilling hundreds of feet down into the arctic ice. The depth of the ice relates to how long ago it was formed. What they found by analyzing the gases trapped in the ice is that up until ~10K years ago, the earth's temp's varied widely. Then things started to stabilize. They didn't say why, only that they did. This was long before man started polluting.

Oh yes, and when Mt Pinatubo erupted a decade or so ago, it spit up about 5 years worth of man made pollution in a matter of days. Did the earth end...?

So, what are we supposed to do?... quit driving?... stop heating our houses?... turn off all the lights?... TV?... computer?... etc. If global warming is true, then it sucks to be us! All we can do is legislate to the world that we get our population down to 5% of where it is now and have everybody use electricity for everything (including cars and heating) and have all energy generated from solar, nuclear, hydro, or geothermal. Nothing else will work.

Chicken Little should just go back home, relax, and take some prozac!

China will do nothing. India will do nothing. Mexico will do nothing. Brazil will do nothing.

But USA are the bad guys. Yes we use a lot of energy but our per capita output is much higher. Yes we can conserve and yes we can change the supposed destiny.

Oh well Al Gore gets credit!!

Remember, they're also the ones exempt from the Montreal protocol, which bans the production of r12 refrigerant. They're exempt because "It would be an unfair burden on their economy"!

Following the same line of reason, they would also be exempt from any attempt to reduce greenhouse gases - again, because 'it would be an unfair burden on their economy'.

Pablo,
back in the 80s/90s, us Aussies were told not to worry about it, as the scientists couldn't agree on an exact figure for warming (there were low and high estimates, a\with a band in the middle). Funnily, they were all suggesting an increase, just differing in magnitude.

If they can't agree, they must be wrong went the logic.
revengeofgaiawarming.jpg

now that we've lived through the early part of their predictions, it seems that the majority of them were still wrong.

There have been plenty of swings in temperature even in recorded history. The planet was warm enough around the year 1000 A.D. that the Norsemen founded a colony on a gigantic island -- and called it Greenland! By 1200 or 1300 that colony was gone, because the Little Ice Age had clamped down on Europe.

Who remembers back in the '60s and '70s, when the Latest Scary Prediction was that a new Ice Age was just about to begin? Scientists then were just as positive about the cooling view, as the ones today who scream about global warming.

The planet may be getting warmer, but it could just as easily be increased insolation from the sun. Our star is a mildly variable star, you know.

And I'm just tossing this one out there -- but what if the global warming is keeping a new ice age from starting? For all we know, said warming might be preventing glaciers from oozing down as far south as Minneapolis.

Benzadmiral,
the sun has been getting hotter for thousands of years (by approx 30%), and the planet's thermostat has been able to control pretty well, even throwing in a few ice ages.

We're embarking on an unplanned experiment, by increasing the output of CO2 at a rate greater than the Earth can dispose of it (we've increased the concentration of CO2 by 50%...more than it's ever been while the climate was what we know as "normal").

We have modified the atmosphere, and could potentially be entering a loop of positive feedback that will switch us into another stable climate, just not one that we like or is beneficial to us.

"Australia, on average, has warmed more than the globe has, by 0.7 degrees, and there are quite large parts of Australia, for example, South Australia and the Northern Territory, that have warmed by more than 1.5 degrees," says Lowe, who is also the president of the Australian Conservation Foundation. "

No reasons given? Typical.

scientists can quantify by how much a river's average flow has declined over a period, but they might be reluctant to say the river's ecosystem is irreversibly damaged. "The worry is you won't be able to say that until it has happened and then it is too late," Lowe says.

And they said it would take 100 years for the harbor to clear up after Valdez spill, too.

I didn't see ANY evidence in that as to how man is responsible.

we've increased the concentration of CO2 by 50%

And we've been monitoring CO2 concentrations for how long? 100 years...maybe? And this is what in geologic time?

Oh yeah, the magnetic field has been shown to switch polarity from North to South as well...within the time Man has been making pottery. I suppose that is Man's fault as well?

Tempest,
OK, in the time we have been monitoring it, we have increased it's concentration by 50%...fact...we've been measuring it.

Gas samples from Ice cores show that this is the highest CO2 has ever been, since our current climate "evolved" (in geologic time...fact.

As to temperatures in different places changing by different amounts, it has a lot to do with Ocean current. If the Gulf Stream stops (and it did a few years ago for around 10 days) due to warming upsetting the salt balance, the U.K. and Mediterranean will likely cool off...as a result of "global" warming.

I've been on the fence until this report. This report is hard to refute. But lets not lose sight here in the sense that moving off of fossil fuels in more ways than one is a good thing not only for the climate, but health of the population and national security.

It's not just about Global Warming. Oh and btw, Al Gore is extreme and I would never implement all of his recommendations.

What has irritated me the most is the arrogant attitude among the conservative talk show hosts and far right wing acting as if scientists are making this stuff up. #@$%!? Yeah they are making it up....surely it becomes political and biased, but the facts are overwhelming. The issue in my mind has always been the question of how much we have contributed to global warming. Climates do change on their own as well!

How G0d must be laughing at our "understanding" of the earth. We have the entire sum of 130-150 years of temp data. The earth has been around for billions of years. It wasn't until 1979 that the theory that all heat energy on earth came from the sun was blown to bits.

Ted Danson predicted the oceans would have 10 years left. That was 1988.

Al Gore predicted the earth has 10 years left, that was last January.

Now another "we only have 10 years left" prediction. If you believe ANY of these predictions, you've been completely fooled...your emotions have been tapped into by those who insist on political gain because of fear.

So, Halliburton is at fault, so is President Bush. We can blame Mother Theresa too, as she is known to have been a passenger in a fossil fuel burning car. What was Pope John Paul II's carbon footprint? I'm sure it was just awful.

C'mon guys, stop drinking the emotional kool-aid!

It's total vanity to believe that we (read: the U.S./ the west) is going to destroy earth. It's pure vanity. Well, politics, too. Vanity is allowed here. Politics is not, right?

"My carbon footprint is less than anyone in my town, I use Fuel Power and Lube Control!"
