US spends more on defence than the rest of the world together (from the CIA factbook).

If you don't have it now, then you probably don't need that gold plated toilet seat.

either that or your money is being wasted at present.

The reality is credit is the cause of the problem.

One would not say that the way to help a crack addict overcome his addiction is to give him more crack, but with strings attached.

So how are any of the bailouts that involve loans or loan guarantees any different than giving the crack addict another hit under controlled circumstances? In my opinion, they are not.

So more loans, to anyone, banks, corporations, government, consumers is exactly the WRONG solution to the problem.

In the short term, everyone, including the government needs to spend LESS than it takes in.

Spending more than one has, at all levels is the source of this problem.

How is that fixed if the government just creates more government debt and then loans that money to corporations or even homeowners who are already in debt?

It fixes nothing and only delays and likely worsens the problem for future generations.

It's like the old Fram commercial, "You can pay me now, or pay me later." More loans and borrowing is the much larger pay me later scenario.

Worldwide we're seeing the credit bubble deflating and it's got a long way to go before it gets better.

We can still build plenty of military hardware if need be.

To be fair, we have the only functional military left of any size. The Brits and you guys also have functional militarys but smaller than ours.

The rest of the world, not so much. Maybe the Germans but who else?

LMAO! Who bombed what harbour in WWII? Yes........ And who made those crazy tinfoil planes? Oh, that would have been Mitsubishi......

We had that choice 67 years ago, hint the rising sun lost :)

BTW, the M1 abrahams was a Chrysler design (when they owned that portion of their business in 70's) and I would say has served us quite well.

That was long before capitalism hit their shores.

The USA was ONE of the allies. How can ANY blame be placed squarely on their shoulders? Japan attacking Pearl Harbour was what fully pulled the United States into WWII....

Unless you were there, how can you pass judgement on what transpired during the fallout and negotiations?

I would like to associate myself with the big three, that way I can get my bills paid off as well. Kinda like those Pork-barrel spending things they tack on to a bill!! If tehy won't allow my bills to be paid like thiers will, then LET 'EM BANKRUPT!!

Were you on the moon when the US landed there? I wasn't either, yet I beleive the USA went there.

My comments were in regard to the European theatre of WW2, and NOT the pacific.

Yea, Russia was our ally, but stupid FDR got seduced by Uncle Joe, and let him have the entire Eastern Block. Churchill wanted to push the red army out of Poland but FDR, and later Truman didn't have the stomach for more war. Patton agreed with Churchill....and for this reason the Allies lost the war, even if France Belgium, Netherlands and others were freed...

Yes, I think it's time for the freeloaders of the world to handle their own defense.

You are correct. Some people want even more of them.
