I have been searching for VOA's on my phone for four days now...
And I can't find one for the new GC 0w30.
I see some posts that say it's an SL rating still and others say it's an SN.

I returned some Castrol 10w40 since the consensus was is was not safe for flat tappets.
I want to make a bulk buy if it can somewhat mirror RL 10w40 as far as additives.

I NEEEEED to go to sleep to be up in a few hours and need some oil fast. I can always use Redline as always, but shipping time...

Think any of you guys can locate one?
I have searched here and other sites. And the search feature isn't so hot on this forum compared to others.

THANK YOU!!! in advance if you can do me this favor.
Night. Another 3 hour sleep night.

EDIT: I have used up all my drums of Redline and need to make a purchase before prices rise again. I have three oil/filter changes due this weekend and it's finally going to be somewhat warm to melt the snow this weekend.

Sure have. Everytime I am on here posting... I am doing more searching and I see mixed results. Would like to get in on the AAP deal if it'll protect. One says formula has not changed... another will say it has, another says its still SL while one says its now SN

Yeppers ... but I have always used Redline 10w40 in EVERYTHING... and there is a nice deal I want in on, IF the numbers compare or are close. Trying to save bucks... but need a solid confirmation... not all the confliction I am reading on here about ONE oil.

Bout to just throw in the towel, buy what I know at a premium... and carry on. But I do like to save where possible, hence why I buy drums usually and not gallons or quarts

Sorry, I was being a stinker, asking if you'd expanded your search outside of looking only on your phone, as in the files located on your phone. :P

While researching which OW-30 Edge Advance Auto had during their BOGO promotion on all Castrol products some one posted that the new 0W-30 was SN rated, raising the question of whether the old GC was even still being offered. Well, I ordered 10 quarts, just in case it was GC, and when my wife went to pick it up, it was indeed GC.

Oddly enough, another member on here nabbed my 10 quarts before my wife got there! The AAP near me will stow sold products in the back, but not the AAP that had the GC I ordered, I guess.

I just ordered another 10 quarts and will go to pick it up tomorrow. If it's SN-rated I'll let you know, since I don't believe an SN-rated 0W-30 Edge has been seen thus far. If an SN-rated Edge does exist, I'd be curious to see where it's made.

New GC is no different than old GC. Whoever told you it's SN rated was wrong. GC is still SL rated.

This ^^^

Just bought some Saturday, it showed a born on date of late 2012 and it was still SL. In this case SL = ZDDP.

A 40 grade can still be SN and have higher ZDDP levels, lower grades can not which is why GC 0w30 is SL. SL is the most recent API spec that will still allow those ZDDP levels.

Mobil 1 HM is also SN and the 30 grades are not for the same reason.

So what's the deal with the 5W40?
Made in USA? Comparable levels of add pack to 0w30?

Nevermind... found it on Advance Auto Parts site... search "function" on here really leaves much to be desired.

I saw the SN rating on the bottle for myself today. Only had one bottle of CG on the shelf though.
SN rating but lists SN, SM, and SL underneath.

They're always backwards-compatible.

SN is backwards compatible, but for GC to all the sudden become SN rated means it will have lost a lot of the magic that made it so sought out-- specfically the high levels of ZDDP that prohibited it from meeting SM and newer standards.

I myself would like to see GC get with the times. I'll take an oil with a great basestock and less ZDDP than an oil with an average basestock and all the ZDDP in the world. That's not to say GC doesn't have a good basestock; I suspect it does, but there's always room for improvement

We're looking at the same GC that's been on the shelves since 2005, seven years of the same blend.

Some further than others. I was under the IMPRESSION that the SL was the "latest" grade.
Meaning that it was SL but satisfied SH and SG.
It is an SN, and satisfies SM and SL.

Redline 10w40 (my "old" oil) "Recommended for API SN/SM/SL/SJ/SH/SG/CF and ACEA A3/B3/B4"

So it seems that some on here would still call it an SG RATED oil.

Too much thought wasted on all this.
Just a really good deal for the BOGO, and I was hoping to use it in everything I maintain, as I did with RL10W40.
