I have a gallon left over that I used for some other cleaning. It's usually 70-80% alcohol and gasoline itself is usually a very good solvent as well.

It's good for removing tar. Haven't tried it for sap. After using it I would spray the area with some detail spray or waterless wash to get rid of the residue.
 
If you use any solvents to remove tree sap (or other surface bonded contaminants) be sure to reseal (synthetic sealant) or wax (carrnuba) you paint, doubly so if it's a single stage paint.

Best also wash your car in between the solvent and sealant step, just to ensure any solvents/petrol are removed.

+1 WD40 ... use it for this stuff on cars and tar balls from the beaches (on bare feet) ... I normally use a bit of Dawn & water to get the oil off …waxing is optional but not a bad idea
