A freind of mine has a neighbor that feeds pigeons. Somebody suggested alka-seltzer as it will expand in their stomach and "explode". I did a bit of research on the net and it appears to be more of an urban legend. Does anybody know what impact alka seltzer will have on a pigeon?

i dont know about pigeons but i do know from personal expierence that if you swallow a handfull of them it makes you burp alot.

i dont know why a pigeon cant burp?

I think of bird poop as acid on the paint of my vehicles. Clean it off ASAP or it stains. Besides fertillizer is not all that necessary in the concrete urban jungle.

Pigeons are disease carriers, I'd say give it a try.

quote:

Yeah, why would you want to kill pigeons?

They are pests. Build nest everywhere and poops everywhere. Over here all the buildings have to put spikes on every top facing surface to avoid pigeons and their poops.

They also transmit diseases.

Good luck with all that. Humans haven't managed to get rid of rats, cockroaches, coyotes, crows, raccons, and other "pests" why would you think we could get rid of pigeons?
The best remedies for pests are the predators that dine on them.

"They are pests. Build nest everywhere and poops everywhere." --- kind of like us, huh?

On the other hand.......most rodents cannot regurgitate. There is a registered rodent poison called zinc phosphide that produces toxic gas when it is mixed with the stomach acid of the rodent. The outcome is equivalent to the alka seltzer myth.

Just thought you guys might want to know about this kind of stuff!

Edit: Well, in reality the phosphine gas doesn't really cause an internal explosion, but more likely allows entry into the blood stream, etc..

If you want to watch something really cool, make a dry ice bomb with a 2 liter bottle. WOW!!! I awoke about a 10 square mile area around my neighborhood one evening with one of them. Didn't think it would be quite that explosive.

I'll have to dig it up but somewhere i have an video of a Canada goose eating an alka selzer ... the aftermath resembled a minature mushroom cloud. Totally unbelievable.
