This is an example of a Quaker State motor.

It's pointless to even compare this engine to the one with Amsoil. Most Vette owners that do tear downs say the engines are spotless. Looks like something else was going on here.

I had the top end of an LS1 apart at 274K miles for a lifter replacement. Cylinder walls were great. I didn't have the bottom end off so I can't speak for that area.

C'mon, Buster, I posted the pic mainly for those who like to see engine sludge...not to compare how clean it was with an engine that used Amsoil!

I know most people who own Vette's take great care of them, so they should be pretty clean. This was from a 1970's 'Vette, so who knows what has happened/not happened to that engine in the intervening years......

that engine needs to be stripped down to a longblock and pressure cleaned, then put back in and run.
looks like a carbed L82 engine? I would have to tear it down before I paid $4+ a gallon for gas to drive arond n.

That an old engine. Oil technology has changed alot since that car first started using oil. Also unleaded gas and tighter tolerances now.

My mistake. I've seen many people try and make false comparisons so I jumped the gun. My bad dawg. LOL

No worries, dude - just wanted you to understand it was a very 'casual' post - no 'proving anything' behind it!

LOL

wow, thats exaclly what the engines look like in my BL's cars from running cheap dino it's whole life,he had to do lifters twice now..thats nasty..

A solvent brush round style and a pint of B12 Chentool would have that clean as can be in a matter of minutes! It would disolve the stuff completly between the solvent and the brsh action. Then fire it up to get it up to operateing temp letting the B12 do it's thing internaly and drain the oil!

That is not that bad it just old and hard! That is typical of trailer and garage queens!

how long before you think it would clean up?

If it's a weekend driver, probably a year. That's the rough part about garage queens. You gotta do the mileage for the stuff to work. Otherwise, it's an ideal candidate.

It also looks like the PCV was hardly ever changed, my Dad's 1979 Pontiac Bonneville with 200,000 miles looks just like that Corvette in the picture, inside the valve covers of course, now I know why my neighbor bought a 72 Corvette, of course it is a rebuilt engine with only 15,000 miles on it, he has had it a year and it spends 99% of it's time sitting in the garage.

I really wouldn't worry about it . If the guy took the engine apart and cleaned it it probably would last just as long whether clean or with that amount of sludge in it.

That is not a comparison .The clean vette engine has been rebuilt or refreshed look at the gaskets ,the numbers stamped on the con rods etc.

And the other is an original? How can you tell that?
