OK, this is a total new guy question and I've really tried to do my searching and homework before I ask those typical FNG questions. I read up on a lot of the stuff I'm trying to learn about, but here's a scenario I didn't get answered. So, thanks for helping if you can...

I'll use these two Amsoil products because I asked about one earlier, but please don't focus so much on the fact they're Amsoil products and stick to the root of my question.

So I was looking at the data sheets for the 5W20 between the improved XL and the new OE. All those numbers (and what very little I know about them) seem really close, except for the TBN. I've been reading about TBN to get a grasp on that, but seems that number isn't the end-all be-all and doesn't quite mean what it might have meant a few years back.

So if you were in a position of trying to make a somewhat educated decision between these two oils, which would you choose and what made that decision for you?? (Like I said, this is more about me learning stuff than literally trying to choose between the OE and the XL)

On a side note...if you absolute must know (and only just in case it influences the decision), I'm looking at a new truck that calls for 5W20 and 7,500 OCI, which I'm not the type to get too focused on that part. With my yearly driving mileage either could very possibly fit the bill, technically speaking of course.

The TBN is really only going to matter for longer OCI, and matters more if you have ethanol blended gas which tends to increase the acidity of oil more quickly. But, all oil's TBN doesn't seem to change at the same rate, so you can't really compare them just from the spec sheet.

What I'm saying is... TBN probably isn't important to you and even if it were you can't just take the initial TBN and compare oils with it.
