The lady at our new place is great. I'll have to ensure she gets a nice Christmas "gift" this year!

Yes, and people wonder why I rent a PO Box downtown. They should have kept up with the plan to eliminate door to door delivery.

My father in-law worked for C.P. for 40 years and just retired. It's funny because he lost his door to door mail service and they installed their super-box literally 30ft from his front door. We never lost ours and with all the packages we get from online orders I'm thankful.

ONN: We have always been good to our carriers and leave them a Timmies card at Christmas in a card. We do the same with the "waste management technicians" and we never have an issue leaving out the extra bag of garbage here/there without the tag on it.

I've told this story before but it's worth repeating....

I was expecting a package from Amazon, being delivered by USPS. It's too big to fit in our mailbox (at the street), meaning it has to be brought up to our porch. At some point in the day, I got a text message from Amazon saying it couldn't be delivered, so I checked the actual tracking details on USPS website. It said "Receptacle was blocked". That wasn't true but here's the best part: The mail carrier delivered some mail and put them in our mailbox. She also put a postcard in there about postal service 'rules' and what the issue was - "Receptacle blocked".

The PO Box works for me for online orders, at least where they'll deliver to one. The carrier (and couriers) never deliver anything anyhow, and just leave a pickup slip because "no one was home."

I don't know what's happened at our post office, nationwide. Years ago, carriers took some pride. Now, I have a dusting of snow in the morning before I get up, and what little mail would come gets held. That wonderful worth ethic and pride in work makes the PO Box much more useful.

I've had community mailboxes since we bought our first house in the 80's.
Much preferred to home delivery.
You can mail letters at the community boxes.
Packages can be left in the big lock boxes. If you haven't picked up your mail for a week, no one knows, a big advantage vs. home delivery.
Our CP mail carrier is the best. If I have a package that needs a signature, she will also drop of the regular mail.
And it seems like she likes her job, always cheerful.

Like getting rid of pennies and dollar bills, Canadians have the right idea about nixing home delivery. Plus-- these people are high paid governmental employees, why should they get Christmas gifts? Won't go off on my libertarian rant about deep sixing the whole thing 'cause I've already done it on this board.

Our USPS delivery person is awesome. She'll put parcels by our door and try to hide them from street view or if it's raining. If we're home she'll ring the doorbell to either deliver or pickup parcels. As with any situation, it just depends.

My daughter was a Postie in our town for over 10 years, it's a gruelling job riding a heavily laden pushbike in all weathers, uphill and down, wind, rain, summer heat...stray dogs roaming the streets. She now has damaged wrists and is unable to do the job. Not very often she couldn't deliver all her mail in the one day, even when she had 2 runs to do. We are losing our Posties soon, they are on 3 days now, and will soon go to a contractor.

Even an inexpensive Harbor Freight outdoor security camera would solve this mail delivery snafu. That camera will tell you why your deliveries have not occurred.

Had the same problem, finally got enough. Happened to be at my mail box one morning putting his wrong mail back in my box for him to pick up, when he came by to drop more mail off. I am an easy going person, (most of the time), but not that day!
After I finished with him, I have never had anymore problems. (He does not speak to me anymore, that's ok, he is the mail man, not my buddy!!)
Problem solved!!

I have not had issues either. some of these comments are just anti government rants. our postal service is far better than many countrieswhhere they steal everything.
talk to the route carrier. written complaints can hurt them.
carrier can help you with stuff too.

Our mailman comes across as stand-offish but we have no complaints about the job he does. We have never lost a mail but when he is off for whatever reason, we notice it right away. I usually thank every delivery person because I appreciate the job that they do. I wouldn't be able to do such a job for sure. Most reply with a thank you, our mailman, never.

With the mail not being delivered for whatever reason, if its amazon package then I would give them a pass. I heard that there are so many packages that sometimes the mailman can not do the same route over and over to deliver all amazon shipments. In such cases, they either mark it as delivered or come up with some odd non-existant issue so that the delivery can be delayed and don't have to pay anything to amazon (for a missed delivery). I have no problem with this. Amazon is no saint after all.

Filing a complaint against the Postmaster is worthless as well. My local postmaster likes to raise the price of postage whenever he feels like it. Do you think that anyone above him has done anything about it?

I just sent out an oil sample to ALS in Ohio on Wednesday. No scan at the local post office. That would take too much effort.

This morning, my oil sample is in Oregon. Oregon is a long way away from me, in Illinois.... and ALS, in Ohio.

I'll be lucky if it finally finds its way back to Ohio.

The USPS thinks that it is too big to fail and too big to be fixed. That's why postage rates will be going up again soon.

He raised the prices early, on an announced rate increase. The announced postal rate increase was to take place on a Monday, he starts charging the new rates the week before.. He assumes that people hear of a rate increase in the news, but don't know when it is to take place.... or they simply don't care.

Why not? He has nothing and no one to fear. This is Illinois. Corruption abounds.
