Pentius PLXL1495P disappointment

In regards to where a broken off slug may end up. They are too big to ever make it back to the sump. There isn't any oil path that stays that big between the filter and all the way to the sump. All the feeder oil paths off large main galleries are small and slugs that big would lodge somewhere along the way.

I wonder if the CQ Premium or MG Select filters that are made in Viet Nam have this same problem. I have a CQ Premium on my Nissan Rogue and a MG Select on my wife's Rogue. There have been no problems with either one but this thread has me thinking I should swap out both filters for Fram or Super Tech E-Cores.

Those filters are made by PGI not Pentius.

Not good to see. All my pentius filters are made in Korea, & don't have the issue. Luckily, I have enough for a few years worth, & will see what's happening in the oil filter world come time to need to buy more.

^^^ No connection between Pentius and PGI.

Would this Pentius PLXL oil filter be an engine killer (more dangerous than the Fram Ultras ever were)?

I’m disappointed. Thanks for posting. Not good at all. Another example of why to inspect every filter before installation no matter the brand.

This seems to be the second Pentius with this problem I’ve seen online(no longer a one off). It will be interesting to see if a pattern develops or if it’s isolated.

How many are like this in the case?

I have three 12 packs of the PLXL7317 filters that I bought months ago from Amazon. All three 12 pack boxes say: Made in Korea.
So these filters should be ok.

It appears the engine killer Pentius PLXL filters are the ones made in China?

With the very limited data we have so far it appears to be the China factory. All mine are Korea made and look perfect.

Nah, there is much adieu about oil filtration around here and yet OPE engines run harder for a zillion hours with no filtering system at all.

My comment is more along the lines of one of the plugs blocking up an oil galley and starving components of oil and wiping out bearings, camshafts etc etc.

WCW just dropped a vid with a China made basic 5k Pentius. It did not have the unpunched holes like this one, but did have sloppy glue not seen in the Korea made ones. Also the pleats aren’t as straight and even as we normally see in Pentius filters. To me it’s obvious the Pentius China factory is not on the same level of QC and should be avoided at this point.

LOVE the high quality, technically accurate WCW videos.

I would not have had a problem running either one of those. Kind of wish Champ would just chuck the felt end caps on their economy line all together and go to metal end caps like this one.
