I have noticed the really low prices for Pennzoil syn. oils at Wally World . 5w30 1 quart for 3.99 , 5 qt for 22 bucks . 5w30 ultra 24.97 . Must be trying to get people to give it a try or just trying to get old stock out ?

Part of that is their own fault for not keeping shelves well stocked across their entire line and/or not all grades available. At least that is what I see when I visit my local retailers in Buffalo, NY during shopping trips.

All I know is I've got a shelf full of it. It makes great UOAs, and I've never had an issue. I buy PUP every time it's on sale, and use/recommend PP to friends and family. I admit, my applications are not that stressful (non-DIT, no towing, etc), but no other oils I've tried have returned better looking UOAs for similar mileages. It gets my vote in the sub-$25/5qt category.

Mobil, Valvoline, Quaker State, et al must also not be selling if WalMart sale prices are an indicator. Pretty much every brand goes on sale from time to time as manufacturers vie for market share.

I've noticed that in the past my local WalMart hardly ever had Pennzoil conventional in stock. If they did it likely wasn't in the viscosity I needed.

Not sure about the synthetics, but PYB is one of the top selling oils in the world, if not number one selling motor oil at least in the US. Mobil has the marketing for synthetics, the others are pretty lackluster, although Castrol makes an honest attempt but falls short. I don't see anything taking Mobil 1's spot as the top selling synthetic oil worldwide anytime soon, if ever.

Same here! Likely enough now for 2 yrs for each vehicle, maybe more?

I have read PUP is hard to get in some places but thankfully I haven't had that problem in my neck of the woods.

Recently, CDN Tire had sales of 40% and 45% off Pennzoil oils and the shelves were cleared out in just a couple of days. Prior to this sale by a couple months or more, WalMart had a rollback on Pennzoil 5 ltr jugs down to $28.88 and the same happened there. All were purchased in short order.

Patman and I both wondered what was going on with back to back sales at CDN Tire, which had never been seen before, but to say they are not selling is wrong, at least up here, imo.

Also, take a look at the OCI thread. Many in there are using Pennzoil as well for their OC's so maybe its just in your neck of the woods that its not selling or like in my case, sales are just that, on sale because that's what they do (all oil manus) from time to time?

In North America Pennzoil made huge gains on Mobil One in 2014-2016. Then in 2017 sales dropped. Some figures I have seen were near or above double digit losses.

Also I will add Shell Helix is number 2 after Mobil One in markets outside of North America.

Did Mobil 1 regain some of that share, or was it grabbed by others? I'd love to see the latest breakdown of market share.

Valvoline made the largest gains.

PYB is too high now compared to most of it's competitors. $18.98 per five quart jug at Walmart. That last price increase took it off my buying radar. It rarely goes on sale. Platinum seems to always be on sale plus rebates.

I've been getting Formula Shell for as low as $1.77/quart.

Just haven't had much reason to grab any Pennzoil lately... although SOPUS is still getting my money.

Another thing: Mobil 1 has an EP & AP formulas, and they advertise them as their premium, long-interval-drain products. The EP is very reasonably priced, and after a rebate costs around $15. No such products in the Pennzoil line, at least none of their formulas specifically say for "extended intervals."
