The red one is mine, a 2011 1LT. The "Autumn Metallic" (I just call it brown) one is my wife's 2013 LS.

My grandmother actually just traded her 10 Malibu for the a 2012 Cruze since her lease was up. So far she's very happy with it. With the exception of the transmission I liked my 2011 when I had it.

I really, really like these cares. If I was in the market for a new car for my wife, I think a Cruze Eco would be on our short list.

What happened? I didn't even realize you'd traded!

My Cruze Eco (manual transmission) has been very good to me in the time I've had it. It's quick enough, does everything very well, and gets great gas mileage.

With the Cruze, gas mileage varies so much based on transmission and year. A manual Cruze will do better than an automatic Cruze, and the Eco manual transmission will blow every other Cruze away for fuel economy. And, the 2011 automatics get horrid gas mileage compared to every other Cruze, to the point where a 2011 automatic gets on the highway what I get in my 2012 Eco manual when doing city driving, at about 32-33 mpg.

I still refer to them as the new "corolla", (at least styling wise), but it looks to be the next car that we will own...

Everyone I know who has one loves it.

Perhaps you can shed some light for me. And I don't mean to insult you or anything. But I could never figure out why a couple would get two of the exact same car. I've seen it on other forums and my boss and his wife both have Lexus IS's. Just seems to me to be wise to get different cars to meet different needs. Like the Cruze for long efficient highway trips and an Equinox or something for around town grocery getting or Home Depot trips. Or at the very least just for a little variety. I enjoy getting into my wife's Explorer on the weekend after driving my Focus all week. They're so different I pretty much have both sides of the spectrum. Actually I wouldn't mind getting a Miata or something to truly cover all points of the spectrum.

I have a 2011 1LT in the same color as yours. I agree the highway mpg is 32-34 (nothing to write home about). It is a nice, well made car.

Do either of you lose coolant from the tank? It seems to be a problem with the Cruze along with an anti-freeze smell after shut down..

I know how it is to share the same kind of car. My wife and I both drive Cobalts. Hers is a lot nicer than my Cobalt which pretty much as base as they come but I like it. Also have my dakota in case I get bored with the Cobalts. From my perspective as far as Cobalts are concerned. The manual transmission is far superior to the automatic. It's faster and gets better fuel mileage

I like the way the 1.4T drive with manual transmission. I really did not like the 1.8 with auto, it ruined the car.

If 1.4T turns out reliable long term it seems like a viable inexpensive car with manual transmission out there for myself.

Which mods?

I really thought the Cruze LS 1.8 would be more like the Integra 4 door.

It's only down a couple of horsepower, but when you mash the pedal down, you really feel the extra weight that the Cruze packs.

It's not bad...and it's more comfortable and better appointed than the Acura Integra LS. (Who would have thought that 15 years ago...a base Chevy better appointed than an Acura?)

That's a good question. My girlfriend wanted to get a Ridgeline but in a different color. I talked her into a Lexus IS instead.

Because she liked my car? I don't know man, it's just what she wanted. She drove mine around and really liked it, and we got rid of the troublesome Impala she owned before and got the Cruze.. The dealer installed a remote start for her, and it has everything my car has except the turbo and the rear parking sensors.

Her Cruze with the 1.8 has plenty of power for her. It still takes the kid to school, and it still merges on the highway just fine. She's not picky, she just wanted a reliable car. I modded my 1.4 turbo with a custom tune, now it's a lot more fun to drive.

No idea what mods he had, but I was surprised to see a Cruze in my rear-view, keeping up with me at 3/4 throttle, accelerating uphill. We weren't racing, mind you (re: rear-view,) but even at 3/4 throttle to the speed limit I was bookin', so to see a little 1.4T right there in my rear-view was surprising and neat. He didn't have a loud exhaust, nor an intake as far as I could tell, which only leaves tuning. If that's true (based on sound,) then those things must respond really well to tuning!

Yep, these things dyno right about 160-170 hp at the wheels and ~195 ft/lbs with just a tune. That's up from ~116 hp at the wheels and 140 ft/lbs stock on a 2011 automatic. I have that tune on mine, and it'll move right along when needed.

^^^Agreed. The Cruze has a bit more "heft" to it as weight that may equate to a better structure. GM spent a lot developing this platform, it's going to get better.

I would love to see what the slushboxes can get for mpg with a tune.
