New Honda CRV. I figured it had a protectant on it. Hit it with a hose - no beading at all.

So for many hours over the last couple of days I have searched and read. I think my brain is close to herniating. I have no interest in the nuances of shine.

I care about: ease of application and durability while providing good protection. I also care about screwing up plastic parts, but I have used NF for years.

So far the best candidate seems to be NuFinish. Blackfire Crystal Seal seems to be a possibility, but I don't have any of it. And I have several days of good weather coming.

Base question: Is NF the way to go? Please don't go through the litany of "I like this" without definitive test links. A waste of both your and my time. Needs to be over the counter. Durability is paramount.

Alternate (less important at this time) question: anything tested to be better in the two categories above for next time? Need not be OTC.

NuFinish is your go to product for what you specify you want.

I have used Rejex, an aerospace paint sealant, which is really durable but expensive and only available retail (that I have found) at True Value Hardware stores.

So I say stick with NuFinish.

Zanio - durability test results?

Rejex - do you have any actual durability tests? Sounds interesting. Cost is not a driving issue.

To reiterate - other than NF, a post recommending a material without a believable test link is not useful in any way.

Duragloss #101 or #105 will do what you want. Inexpensive, easy on & off, durable, looks great,.........what more could you ask for? I speak from experience, used #105 on many many customers' cars, all were thrilled with the outcome as was I.

Klasse makes a very good paint sealant. Not too expensive and you can get it online easily.

But yes, NuFinish is probably the least Bourgeois of all paint sealants my comrade.

Ever consider a wowa (wipe on walk away) type sealant? I am a compulsive neat freak and keep my cars spotless.

I recently tried Ultima Paint Guard Plus. Literally, mist on a mf applicator and wipe down the paint. Could not be any easier for application. Up to 2 year durability per the manufacturer. I doubt that is the case, but if it made it 6 months, that would be acceptable.
I used it on a ice blue metallic car, and it gave it a nice shine, super slick feel, and super water beading. Used it on a red metallic and it looked amazing. On pure white it looked good, but maybe a little plastic in appearance.
Good for paint, metal, glass, plastic, just about everything. About 10 mists covers my land yacht (2013 Ram crew cab). Bottle will last for years. Do a quick search and you will find plenty of reviews. I have only had it on for a few weeks now, but beads just like the first day so far.

If you want the traditional apply and buff off stuff, I did a test during the winter on Griots sealant, Mothers Synwax, and Duragloss 105. All lasted about 4 months on a car that sat out during the winter. My review is on this site.

Good luck.

Agreed.

I also really like UPGP and have been using it for years now, so easy to use, quick, looks good and almost fool proof in application. Durability is rather good also...but 2 years...ha, maybe if you apply it, park the car in the garage, don't touch it and only drive it about 2 miles once a month

The only LSP that will last years is Opti-Coat 2.0 or one of the glass coatings (i.e. DP Paint Coating or CQuartz).

Otherwise, you're looking at 4-6 months in a best-case scenario.

I would recommend Menzerna Power Lock after a decontamination with Iron-X and a clay bar (or clay alternative). It is easy to apply, makes maintenance almost as easy as an Opti-Coated car, and has very good gloss.

However, I would highly recommend one of the coatings (especially Opti-Coat) if you want to minimize your maintenance.

I looked at CQuartz info. There are one or two issues with what the blurb says. First, it con only be removed with an abrasive cleaner. Not an issue I suppose if I were to stick with it. The other thing is they say to wipe bird droppings off asap because it does not protect from that. I consider anti [censored] a requirement.

Still dithering.

Opti-Coat is the better product. It is cheaper per application and has a longer lifespan. All of the enthusiast testing done has shown the product to be chemical resistant. The only downsides are the lack of gloss and possible water spotting.

It's time for someone (hint)
fingers-pointing-2493285.jpg
to summarize all these new sealants (brand, type, etc.)so we can have a discussion about their pros and cons. For instance, I have to imagine that these new super hydrophobic sprays cause misery for the paint shops because any trace not removed might cause adhesion or fisheye problems, correct???

Either this thread or start a new one with a searchable title.

I still use Zaino products with great success and awesome durability. But, it is seldom talked about because of all the "Johnny come latelys" . Yet, the occasional new Zaino thread I see posted on the detailing forums still give it great respect. Fortunately, the obnoxious cult followers have quieted down.

Isn't Collinite 845 technically a paint sealant or a hybrid sealant/wax? I believe it is.

I've used Zaino before and it worked well but the instructions/application process was too tedious. I've since found other products that work just as well (maybe better) for my intended purpose that require no thought and little preparation to use and get those results.

Zaino is no more difficult to apply than any other non-AIO product. You can get great results only using the sealant alone (Z 2). All the other stuff is just marketing hype for the fanatics. Wipe it on thin, let haze, wipe off. Simple.

With any pure (non cleaning) last stage product (LSP), to get best results you spend 80% of your effort on prep, and 20% on applying the LSP. I imagine Collinite is no different.

I love Klasse AIO. Durability can be improved by topping with Klasse SG.

AIO is easy to apply - my preferred application method is a microfiber bonnet on a PC7424. Removal is with a MF towel. The great thing about AIO is that it can be used everywhere. Paint, glass, textured plastic trim, metal, headlights... everywhere.

Do not use a lot as it can be difficult to remove if you apply it heavily.

Based on how water beads with AIO, protection last 3-6 months.

80% is always prep but with Collinite, P21S, etc there's nothing to mix and there's only one step for protection and shine. I don't have anything against Zaino but for my money and time I feel other things are better for my needs.
