Nah, I just like to get YOUR blood pressure up!
I learned very early in life that you will NEVER learn anything unless you ask. And, some say, the only stupid Q? there is is the one you don't ask.
There is no such thing as a dumb question". A woman, recounting a story about an old man who used to answer all her "stupid questions", explained "Chica, if you ask a question it makes you look stupid for 5 minutes – but if you don't ask – you stay stupid for fifty years, so always ask questions in your life".
Anyway, I want to thank everyone for their advice, suggestions, and positive criticism. I have never claimed to know everything there is to know about ammo, and I "WILL" continue to keep asking about it, no matter what!
I used to be very similar. Still am. I love to shoot things and learn for myself. Its a valuable thing, to be your own expert. I have people like Gary Roberts on speed dial any time I want to discuss something involving terminal ballistics...and I still like to shoot stuff myself. However, I probably learned the most about practical application from friends of mine who kill people for a living, doing god's work for our country. They value certain things in a bullet, but hst vs gold dot vs critical duty...doesn't really factor, and m855 vs sost or what not? They just shoot people until they die, and that's that. In "the real world", that's how it works...but like you, I enjoy nerding out over the last 1% of terminal mojo. My advice is to become a hunter. Organic, healthy meat, and relatively risk free understanding of how bullets kill things, as well as the priceless aspect of "being your own expert".
WS6, great advice there. I was an infantry/combat engineer soldier in the US ARMY.
Anyway, I am interested in hand gun ammo to be educated in case someone were to ever be like me, asking Q?'s. That way, I will too, be educated. It's like any job you prepare for. You must know every aspect to know what you're doing to carry out your work correctly. If you're practicing to be a Neurosurgeon and you don't understand how a part of the brain works, will you just sit there and fake it? NO! You will ask Q?'s. I don't know everything about ammo there is to know, so I ask Q?'s. Is there anything wrong with wanting to learn? If your child is doing his/her math homework and they need help with a fraction. Do you expect them to put down any old answer? Or, would you want them to ask for help?
Please, understand, I'm basically just a student of ammo and want to become a teacher some day. That's my analogy to this situation.
