Just a little review of my two trucks before some questions. I've sold the Z71 and the Expedition in my sig (Expy went today) so, naturally, I'm already looking for a new to me truck.

The Z71: Bought it brand new. Extended cab and had the 5.7 Vortec which was awesome. The rest of the truck can rot in H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS! The motor was diagnosed with "seal failure" when it wouldn't hold oil pressure and, after a couple of warranty visits, they replaced it (8k miles on it) and the new motor had been flawless. The transmission was replaced under warranty TWICE. The first grenaded not long after the first engine, the second lost reverse at 30k miles (they attributed both to a pump defect), and the third was fine for the next 13 years. The 4x4 would work when it felt like it from day one (despite me replacing just about every part), the underside of the extended cab doors were rusting through on both sides despite my OCD washing/detailing tendencies, the ring and pinion snapped TWICE during normal driving with the 35" tires on it, and nearly every single electronic part in the cab had failed. I still loved it since it was my first brand new vehicle. I reluctantly let it go a few months ago after 130k miles.

The Expedition: Eddie Bauer, 4x4, 5.4L with 3.73 limited slip gear and tow package. Bought it with 80K or so miles and jacked it up almost immediately. Lift, wheels, 35" tires, sound system, motor upgrades, exhaust, etc. This actually became my "go-to" truck despite it lacking a truck bed. This was known as "the beach vehicle" to my family for driving on the beach, hands down the best beach driving vehicle I've ever owned. The motor was great despite many reports that it was underpowered and sluggish. Never had any of the spark plug problems. The transmission was crisp and predictable. Towed a fairly huge fishing boat better than the Z71 and did it with 6 people in the cab. After 156k miles of pretty heavy towing duty the transmission gave out. I had it rebuilt with upgraded parts and it was solid but not really the same after that. Recently it developed an oil leak from the head (known problem) that also took out the starter. Unfortunately there was no fix other than to take off the head and replace the head gasket so it stayed that way until I sold it today. It left my house today with 236k miles, running perfectly, and I miss it already.

I'm looking at new trucks and I've driven a Ram and a 5.0 F-150. I think I've narrowed the configuration down to a quad cab short bed. I'm leaning heavily towards the 5.0 F-150 at this point but GM's new engine lineup has me intrigued. The conundrum is that I can get a pretty decently discounted 5.0 Ford right now, or wait for the new GM engines, which won't be out long before Ford releases their new refresh along with tweaked Ecoboost and certain other upgrades. In an effort to avoid keeping up with the Jones' I guess I have a few questions. Does anyone have any good reason to choose the new Chevy/GM over this year's F-150 and, if so, how about the new "new" F-150?

Driven the new F-150 with the 5.0 Decent Power nice exhaust sound. Supercrew has quite a bit of rear seat room. The brakes feel really strong and firm. Im not crazy about the steering, but it is probably like any other electric steering vehicle. Ford does have a nice tailgate step to pull yourself up. has lots of info with the electronic gauges such as transmission temp MPG Etc. Comfortable quiet ride. Computer shows around 22 Mpg at 65 MPH

Someone with GM troubles? Gee,never heard of that.lol If the rust dont get ya,everything else will. How did the tailgate (cables, handle, bezel, hinges) fair? Or doors (pins/bushings,latches,window regulators) do?

Excellent, a fresh GM bash thread! It's been a few days.

I'll help the bashing ...

If you didn't like the problems you had with the Chevy - don't get the "RAM" ... That will make the Chevy look like it was perfect

Yeah. Funny we have Silverados in a variety of ages and other than a clunk in the steering column on my 05 they have been nearly flawless. My 05 has around 110k miles now and is the quietest V8 I have ever owned, with a really rugged trans that even my teenage son could not break!

No matter the brand you can always find someone who wants to bad mouth it. You never hear from the folks like me with a whole yard FULL of GMC and Chevrolet vehicles giving great service.

Men are really biased when it comes to trucks. Both brands have had there share of problems. I wouldn't want to be an early adopter of a brand new engine design on any Ford or Chevy myself.

If GM has new engines they should be discounting their old ones. Sounds like it's not happening yet. The LS aren't bad at all but could be a MPG or three more thirsty.

My GM has around 215K miles. It has not been perfect, but it is still moving under its own power...

As a family we have both Fords and Chevys. My FIL's 09 loaded Ford gets 3-4 mpg LESS than my loaded 05 Silverado with 3.73 gears. Not only do we whip the Fords badly for mileage we can run rings around it as there is much better handling and braking in the Chevy due to it being about 600 pounds lighter.

The Ford rides better and is quieter, but has no other advantages other than being much newer...

Ford builds tough TRUCKS ! GM builds Corvettes. My old pappy told me when you go to a steak house don't order seafood.

I'll remember that next time I want seafood. What it has to do with major manufacturers of vehicles I have no clue

I have personal preference to Ford pickups and the little things like having a flat floor board and the layout it seems more practical to me. Ford's drive train is a generation ahead of GM right now. But if anyone says that one brand is superior to another in every facet is just a brand homer. I am sorry but Steve if one truck is getting better than 20% fuel economy under the same conditions something is flawed.

If you want to use True Delta, the Tundra comes out at the top of the heap. However, most pickup owners are too brand loyal or anti-Toyota to even give a Tundra a fair shot. My '08 Tundra is my first non-domestic make truck, and I love it so far. I was looking mostly at GM and Ford trucks and ended up with the Toyota. It's not a perfect truck, but so far I have no regrets and it has been rock solid reliable.

Agree with this but I would eliminate the words Ford or Chevy and add the suffix -thing to the word any.

There is no such thing as a perfect truck. They all have issues. Buy what you like or buy by price. If you can, find a good dealer. You never know when they can come in handy.
