I have been feeling like I want to post but waffling because I'm still struggling with this and I hate to just dump this on BITOG. My wife and I got two puppies, a brother and sister 13 years ago. We don't have kids, so these dogs were our children. We lost Vinny in Feb 2024 and it was extremely difficult, but the way it happened at least prepared us and him to have a pain free death. We had him euthanized at home by a wonderful vet. I've been saying it was the best way to do the worst thing.

With Boo, it was much worse. She had been battling bronchitis last week and we had her on an antibiotic and prednisone but it was not helping much. Very long story, but she was struggling to breath and kept coughing, so around 3am on Friday I put her in the car and drove her to the veterinary hospital. It was bit of a drive and she got weaker as we drove. She passed in the car, in my hands, a minute away from the doors of the hospital.

We are grieving. Its just been simply horrible. My wife is holding up better than me, thank God. We have one more left, a rescue Chihuahua so we are paying a lot of attention to her.

I'm sorry to read about this, time will help heal. She looks beautiful and well cared for!

Heartbreaking! So sorry for your loss.

I still miss our rescues, who died nine and 10 years ago (April 14, 2015, and June 2, 2016).

Deuce, the male, needed almost constant companionship after Nug, his mate, died. He got lots of attention from us.

so sorry for your loss.
Losing a beloved pet can be traumatizing more than those who don't bond with their pets could ever realize.

May I please ask.....did anyone in your household ever use scent diffusers, aroma therapy or incense.?
I believe that is what killed my Shizu but no one believes it.

Sorry to hear that. My cats are like my children too. Lost our Cisco about a month ago. I was devastated. He was my best friend. It's heartbreaking.

Sorry to hear that. I know how you feel. I has a beagle corgi mix Daisy. My parents moved to Arizona and we became pack buddies. She lived to be 17. Tortoise live to 100 but don't have the personality or companionship of dogs.
