Have a tractor with a blown L-head/Opposed 20HP, a 20HP OHV is 500$. Looks close enough to make the swap, maybe the muffler could be a bit of an issue.

Would this be a good swap? Tractor cut very well before, the new ones with that size engine are like 2600$. I was reading reviews, some of them jumped 5-600 in the last few years!

What is the tractor? hard to answer anything without that.
2000ish 42" murray. I could take a pic if needed.

I measured the bolt pattern, seems very close from the drawings I found. It is easy to remove the engine plate.

Usually the bolt pattern is the same, the only issue like you mentioned is the exhaust routing and some wiring.
Wiring is a non-issue. The exhaust though may be tight. Probably with a torch and welder the old muffer could be reused. The mufflers are pretty pricey for what they are.
