Still in my trial period. I will likely drop it when the full service runs out.

But even when the full service runs out all you lose is the crash notification, advisor, and Hot spot data.

I have the OnStar link for my phone so I can still unlock, locate, and still use the diagnostic features on line. Lets you view any daily trips as well as weeks, months, and lifetime. Pretty cool. That is free for 5 years.

Anyone keep al the features or do as I plan to do.

lol. Do you actually think OnStar (or anyone)cares where you are? You aren't important enough,,lo.

I assume you don't carry a phone bc your carrier knows where you are 24/7

Perhaps you are worried that your wife will found your girlfriends house?

True this. I hear they don't track you in Ethiopia.

I have it on the Cobalt and have no problem with anyone knowing where I'm at. If someone is that bored and needs to know this info, they're going to gain nothing but even more boredom so track away.

Because the Cobalt is my toy and has very low mileage, State Farm is giving me a discount on my insurance since they can verify that I really don't drive it that much. The savings on one 6-month premium for allowing that covers the OnStar fee for over a year. Win-win as far as I'm concerned.

Had it in a couple GM's I owned and never used it. It is way too expensive for what you get plus it is just another way to be tracked and I dislike that. Back then you couldn't disable it as unplugging the module or removing fuses would cause other things not to work( guess you can disable it these days ).

Always irritated me that GM owned OnStar. They forced me to buy equipment I didn't want when I got the car and then if I wanted to use said equipment I had to pay them to do so. Just a big racket. Getting a vehicle without OnStar was not easy either. When I ordered my last Silverado I was not allowed to delete OnStar.

Just not a fan of it at all.

My two are on fuses - I know that will disable from me (kid figures out he's on Family Link in college town).
But not sure what GM can still "see" ...

Obviously you don't own a cell phone

Of course I own a cell. Like 99% of people these days I have one. I have it for emergency purposes only however and it isn't always on. I can't even get cell reception inside my home( I have to go out into yard ). If it isn't on it isn't going to be of much use to any government agency trying to track or listen to me. Unlike OnStar, which is always on and running when the car is even if you don't subscribe, a simple press of the power button and my cell is of no use to anyone. To truly disable OnStar you have to physically find the module and unplug it.

I am actually not some kind of conspiracy nut or someone who is afraid the government is after me. I am a good person and I don't break the law so I have nothing to fear. I don't like OnStar because it is over priced and provides nothing special for that cost. I also don't like having a car mfg force me to buy equipment that I then have to pay to use and that can't easily be disabled or removed if I so choose. The tracking part is way WAY down the list and not really even a concern of mine( comments made here are merely for discussion of possibility )..

Removing the fuses may kill the lights on the RVM and make it appear to be off. Actually, in effect it is off to you because you won't be able to use it( and most likely other things like hands free, compass, radio controls, etc... never heard of OnStar being on it's own fuse ). However, everything I have read( years ago and here recent after seeing this thread )is that you need to unplug the OnStar module to truly disable it so "they" can't still see you. On vehicles where the module must be plugged in to start you have to disable the GPS antenna by cutting the wire or removing it or it will allow your vehicle to be tracked.

I don't have a new vehicle with OnStar so I can't say this is 100% accurate. Just what I picked up on out there. Lots of info on disabling OnStar, and what that truly entails, as so many hate it.

It is on a fuse in the normal panel - the module to antenna inside the dash ...
Jr and me have resolved the fuse issue ...

Family Link is on ...

Being I travel often - and are both the lone paycheck and maintenance department - I like the remote info - and having the minimum protection including the airbag deployment emergency response ...
I can buy phone time anytime - so don't pay monthly ...
Am I paying $20 a month for peace of mind - sure.

GM watching over me has not mattered much to me - it's widespread in today's world ...

I feel the exact same way. I am probably getting tracked also by my E-ZPass and SunPass.

Making my tin foil hat. I have a desktop computer, Laptop, two Kindle fire Hd's, Cellphone, and drive a Silverado with OnStar.

Sure hope the hat works!
Oh-and how about my spending being tracked on my credit cards.....

Yea, that's the way I feel.
The free features even if you choose not to continue it are nice.

Actually doesn't add anything to the cost of the car as it potentially generates future revenue for GM.

You seriously believe the cost of that OnStar equipment in the vehicle isn't part of the overall price? You actually think GM installs it and doesn't add the cost to the vehicle's sale price? If so well I have this really cool bridge in Brooklyn I would like to sell you cheap.

My cousin makes good money with a measurement company - his employee gets two things:
Chevy truck with WiFi and Dell notebook ...

I can't prove that it doesn't add to the cost of the vehicle and neither can you prove it does.

When you could buy it - ran $299 or less. All speculation - but in the image of cell phone contracts to HP printers - after initial sale is where I bet most money gets made month on month ...

Otherwise- It would have gone away by now ... MB and others have some fancy systems ...
