Another vote for M1 V Twin. great oil. additive levels you want. made for hotter running air cooled motors and readily available.
I had a 65 bug with a 1865, big cam, roller ratio rockers, big heads and dual carb set up. I couldn't get mine to idle my lift was 750, cam duration @50 thousands, was 296 the power band was 3500-8k light weight engines are so [censored] fun flywheel was just under 12# I ran M1 15-50, I also had a 4qt sump, plus an external oil cooler. I ran something like 9qts. 8.5.1 compression. My oil temps ran about 230ish range. It also ran up to 8500 rpm.
