Hello everyone!!

Just did an OC today on my Camry, another jug of SN PYB 5w30 and i kept on my fram XG for another change worth. Anyway, in my area the fire department has hazardous waste drop off sites, which is where I bring my old oil. Its a "help yourself" kind of drop off site, so no one was around. So I bring in my jug full of used oil, being it to the corner labelled used oil, and what do I find?! An unopened can of old QS and another of Slick 50!! I glance around to double check no body is nearby, and quickly take the 2 cans, and leave. Im quite excited by this find, and thought I would share with the BITOG community! And now, the pics you've all been waiting for! Enjoy!

Ah.....I also remember the QS, Valvoline, Castrol and PYB cans. You had a sprout that you would press into the can to open the can and "form a Funnel" for pouring the oil in the crankcase. The puncture in the can still leaked and spilled no matter how careful you were in using the can.

Then the cans started getting cheap....instead of all metal....only the tops and bottoms were metal while the sides were some aluminum foil, cardboard material.

BTW....I like the bottles and jugs of today much more that those of yesteryear.

about 10 years ago i puled out a oil can 1957 for a chevy automatick trans, still with oil in it. i can remember when my dad bought it. i gave it to a colecter. i wasnt useing it.

Many years ago (like 25)

There was a local guy who milled Teflon to submicronic size and produced a slick 50 type of Teflon based product. He made me a couple of quarts of Mobil 1 with his additive, with the promise that I give him a testimonial. He added so much Teflon, the oil was creme colored!

Anyway, I added about 1/4 quart per his directions. My Bronco II picked up 6MPH in top speed! At first I thought it was not possible. But, it really did make the truck faster.

The weird thing was what happened when I drained the oil. Out came little rocks. They were kind of white/creme colored, and 100% rock hard, brittle. I never found any in the oil filter.

That engine lasted 200,000 miles and still ran great when I traded the truck in.

I used Slick 50 when it 1st came out. .....I think it started me on my oil obsession!!!

I'm guilty of using both Slick 50 and Duralube when both of them first came out. I honestly believed that a special coating was being left behind on my engine parts that eliminated friction! LOL!

The maker of Teflon, DuPont, specifically stated that it was not for use in engines.

True. There was a legal battle where DuPont refused to sell to Quaker State. Quaker State sued, citing "restraint of trade", and won.

It looks very much like the stuff I remember buying at K-Mart when I did my first changes on my Maverick. Except, of course, mine would have said "1 Qt." and not "1 Litre" -- and in the mid-'70s, probably API SE would have been the highest classification!

I think QS has been the number-1 selling oil in Canada for a long, long time. I'd imagine a LOT of 1970's/1980's cars in Canada ran for years on that exact oil.

Neat. Didnt realize that slick 50 was around back at that point. I just remember the early 1990s ads.
