There she sits, but i cant bear to say goodbye. An old John Deere 21SG self propelled that finally quit running after soo many years of faithful service. The ironclad old Briggs and Stratton gave up the ghost after finishing one last 1.2 acres of four foot tall wet grass! It had been raoining for weeks, and I had to mow it. ALmost as if it had a sould i begged her to finish and as it mowed the very last of the grass, I shut her down forever and left to looking pout on the beaustiful job she had done! But honestly, I thought my new John Derre 550.00 mower could replace this old one but its a big joke-good for nothing but the smoothest dry manacured lawns, . Also, Ive thought about a new engine or rebuilding the old engine on the old Deere, but all the plastic gaurds and chutes are falling apart and they do not make replacemnets. What do I do? Are there any lawnmowers short of a tractor or something that will handle rough turf like that old John Deere taht wont cost me a fortune??

...would someone tell me how to edit posts on this forum? I usually write my message, post it, then edit for spelling, but cant figure out how to edit. I apologise for the spelling on my post.

Well, nothing is made like it used to be. All corporations are in the mode of making the cheapest product possible while still being able to sell it for a premium. There are still some excpetions though. I would probably look at Snapper if I were you.

If you want to keep the old mower, rebuild or replace the engine, and have a sheet metal shop fabricate some guards to replace the old broken pastic ones. Not economical, but you could call it a 'project', and justify it in your own mind. Works for me.

After typing your question, check the box marked preview reply, then continue. It will give you a chance to look it over as it will be seen by all. Changes can be made to the box below it. I cut and paste mine into microsoft word to spell check and then cut and paste it back into the edit box if I'm going to go on and on about something.
