Who is doing your oil test lab work and what are you paying?

Long time Blackstone user here. Cost is $30 with TBN plus the ride to them and they always included some comments. Ryan is good to work with.I have always felt the test my oil based on results.

I have seen some issues at another OEM lab for Industrial equipment that the results could not of been from the sample.

Lets' here about Caterpillar and Schaeffer's and???

Current price list on their website shows $32.50 for those services.

I used to use them. Then I used Dyson for a few UOAs, but Terry's prices have skyrocketed, so for casual UOA, just to satisfy my curiosity, it is not worth it. Next time I'm going to try Wearcheck - $19 including TBN or TAN (your choice).

TBN. You can have extra services added to each individual test by either noting it on the form, or calling them. I think the TAN is about $5 additional.

Would you mind posting or sending me a copy or link to a results sheet? I could not find a sample on there site.

thanks

I will be using Titan Labs in the next couple weeks ( Link Here ). I was referred to them directly from Exxon Mobil. I got quoted $17 plus $3 for TBN and $6 for TAN. The usual rate is $26 for the basic but since I can drop it off(I'm now in Denver), I got a discount. They have 2 reports, a "consumer" and "industrial". the consumer report does not give you ppm, but a A, B, or C rating for each element. If you get a passing grade on your report, they give you a 4mo/4k warrantee against oil related problems. Industrial report contains ppm but no warrantee.

Could someone explain to me what TAN is exactly?

Just TBN.

TAN:

http://www.oilanalysis.com/article_detail.asp?articleid=1052&relatedbookgroup=OilAnalysis

http://www.astm.org/Standards/D974.htm

From the BITOG glossary:

Quote:
TAN (Total Acid Number)

The quantity of base, expressed in terms of the equivalent number of milligrams (mg) of Potasium Hydroxide, that is required to titrat(e) the strong acid constituents present in 1 gram (g) of oil sample. (ASTM Method D 644 or D 974).
