I wanna build up one of these stashes I'm hearing about here on BITOG, but I don't wanna spend good money on oil that doesn't have any good reviews or isn't recommended for my engine.

I'm currently Royal Purple 5w30 running on 02 Mitsu. Eclipse GT 3.0 (107,000 mi). It's running great, no leaks and engine is spotless. I live in georgia so I don't think I wanna move from 5w30 as the weather doesn't vary much here, and doesn't get too cold. Just looking for some different brands that will work well with my engine

Hahaha... what about Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 or Castrol Edge 5w30? What oil/specs does the owner's manual recommend?

And what if you build a big stash and then your car gets totaled the next day? Oil isn't going anywhere. Why stock it? What if a much better oil comes out soon? If you don't know where to put your money, invest in a CD.

any group 3 or 4. penzoil platinum or ultra are the darlings here ,but mobil 1 , castroil, valvoline syn, would be fine as far as I am concerned, as long as you are changing oil around 5000 miles you can use any.
I would consider 5w-20 .

Royal purple is overpriced and over hyped. If i said that about amsoil too , I get crucified here , but why pay $8-10/quart when a $2/quart(with deals) will do the same thing.

Your motor is known as an oil leaking grenade , but not from the type of oil you use.I would use a good filter to prevent startup starvation and also keep your pcv extra clean.

Part of saving money (oil) is seeing if you can simply change the oil you are already running less often. First poke around and see what oil tests have revealed with your engine and what miles the other guy was running. You can copy them and hope for the best or pay for your own for your vehicle. I have never been brand loyal, no harm has come to any of my cars doing this. Then scroll towards the bottom of the forum page and check out the sales and promotions area. Some stores are regional and I don't get the good ones on the west coast, but extra eyes and ears out there all over the country for the common goal of stashing has helped a lot. It's in my sig LoL

just grab up good oil change deals when you see them. autozone has a great deal on edge with a K&N filter. napa has there syn (valvoline) on sale for 3.29 right now. oriely's has PP for 4.29 as well. watch out for good deals and take advantage when you can.
oh chevron supreme is an awesome oil and you can get it for 2 bucks!!

It's not that bad for me because I work at Advance Auto Parts. So with my discount RP's price isn't a factor. My engine seems to like it so that's just what I stuck to. I was gonna try Edge next( which costs the same as RP btw), but I wanted to wait until we got the new Edge "Titanium". I'm a little iffy about trying Pennzoil Ultra only because I run my car pretty hard regularly, and I'm not sure if it'll hold up. I REALLY wanna try it though. Thanks for all the input guys...great info

And I just changed the PCV like 2 days ago...lol

Pennzoil Ultra will hold up. I run 14 flat to 13.9x with my supercharged Buick with it. Actually I used regular old yellow bottle, Platinum....... So if your running hard then you are good.

My engine requires only SJ and above which is why I was comfortable running RP. Can't wait to get my hands on that Castrol Edge "Titanium"........

Ok. If the Edge "Titanium" isn't available by my next oil change(about 1,000 more miles) I'll throw in some PU with a Pure1 for 6k.

(I tease of course)

Only reason I see to have a "stash" is if you are using a oil that is hard to find, so you stock up when you find it.
Or when you find it at a killer price.
I tend to choose an oil and stick with it unless I feel some compeling reason to use something else.
If you are scoring Royal Purple at a great price, maybe that is the oil for you to stick with, unless you find something that would be better for your application.
The complaints that I have read on here about Royal Purple is the price.
I use Redline, and remember when AAP tried selling it.
It was selling for around $8 at the time and it was not a mover for them.
A retail location like AAP does not want to waste precious shelf space on a product that sits long enough that they have to dust the bottles off.

That's with no offense to Pennzoil. Just never been a personal user of it myself. I know here on BITOG it's comparable to Jesus Juice. Hopefully it'll work out just as well for me.
