Oil for Toro Two Cycle

You challenge it every time someone asks a question about an Amsoil 2-stroke product. I don't see you do this with other brands. But regardless, you should have the freedom to do so. But you should have the obligation to provide some proof.

For example, if you are claiming:

Quote:
So, one must ask why would anyone pay $10.75 for one quart of Amsoil when a gallon of excellent oil can be had for a mere $2.25 more?

My experience with numerous two cycle engines has taught me that there are very good oils available for a great deal less money. Paying more for any particular brand of oil will not necessarily provide your engine with any clear cut advantage. Sure their ads will promise the world but in reality, much less expensive oil will deliver the same protection at a fraction of the cost.........I challenge the cost/benefit ratio of Amsoil. The benefits neither outweigh nor meet the cost. Hence my preference for much less costly yet capable oils.

Provide the hard data for this. Your format, photos, measurement data, etc.

And please don't just write "it's Amsoil making the claims". Because it isn't - it you claiming these things.

Or let me ask it another way:

So any hard core racing 2-stroke engine would be fine with any 2-stroke oil?

Please excuse me.

I was under the assumption that a Toro two cycle was a snow thrower.

My mistake.

My hard data is:

Amsoil - $10.75 per quart

CTC Motomaster TC-3 oil - $13.00 per gallon.

Been using it for decades without any engine lubrication issues in thirty or more two cycle engines.

Hard enough??

Thank you.

Those old two strokes are great little machines. Surprisingly capable and lots of fun to ride and maintain.

Their simplicity is refreshing.

I've modernized the ignition systems in the 350 and 400 by removing all of the old set up and replacing it with programmable digital electronics. Did a little engine/carb/exhaust work to go with it and those old things turn on pretty good as a result.

What's most important to me is preserving a piece of motorcycling history. It's a nice feeling taking something destined for a scrap yard and putting them back on the road.

As much as I cherish those old machines, they don't get anything special for injection oil. Same stuff as I use in everything else. I spin those babies up to 10000 rpm with no issues whatsoever. Not bad for machines well over thirty five years old.

Sorry, that was a tongue in cheek comment, and I apologize..

Nothing wrong with Amsoil, I use their transmission fluids all the time. I have 2 $10,000 Ski Doo SDI snowmobiles and I run Esso Snowmobile oil that cost $4.69 per liter. It meets all the most stringent 2-cycle ratings, I Don't feel spending any more money is needed...

I read somewhere that Esso makes the CTC Motomaster brand. That's one of the reasons I use it.

I know guys who've been running CTC two cycle oil in their snowmobiles for years, myself included. They've tried other brands. Some more expensive (much more expensive) and they didn't find any advantage using the more expensive oil. Again, it's a cost/benefit thing. If you don't realize any tangible improvement, why spend more?

Just for the record, the OP pays $8.30/qt for Amsoil Saber Pro.

Apparently I was wrong about Amsoil pricing. This what we pay:

I can't see your posted image. You posted the suggested retail price. I was merely posting what the OP pays, the PC price.

Here's a link to give you an idea of what we pay here:
CTC - Amsoil

Obviously a considerable difference.

Maybe now you will understand why I pay $13.00 per gallon vs. $15.00 quart for oil that provides all of the protection that my equipment needs. Amsoil prices are outrageous. Particularly in the country.

Not to beleaguer this topic but, please tell us why Amsoil is more than four times the price of excellent conventional oil? I can understand a few bucks more. But four times more? I don't get it. Does it provide four times the protection?

Amsoil prices are not "outrageous". I will agree CTC is overpriced and charging more than suggested retail makes no sense.

What I don't get is you never say: "Redline is overpriced", "Silkolene is crazy expensive", "Bel-Ray is too expensive", etc. You only jump into Amsoil threads to drop in your opinion, then you repeat it. I think everyone knows your opinion by now and again I have no problem with your opinion on SYNTHETIC 2 stroke oil.

I guess the reason that I don't engage in discussion regarding the above oils is that nobody is using the forum as a basis to sell their products. Otherwise, I'd be challenging them too.

You can take comfort in the knowledge that I don't buy any of the above mentioned oils either. I've actually only bought one liter of synthetic oil (Mobil 1 5W30) for my snow blower. It didn't work out so well. Too much consumption and the engine has probably less than 100 hours on it. It doesn't burn as much conventional oil of the same viscosity.

You didn't answer the question regarding why Amsoil is so expensive. What's the reason?

My 99 Jeep Cherokee carried a little bit over 600 LBS of Amsoil Base Oil from Portlands Industrial Business Park Distribution center on October 14th with a combined Fuel Economy of 22.8 MPG from Wenatchee, Wa empty, 600 LBS way back. Not bad, IMHO, considering Spirited Driving on Her Freshly Built and Driven-In 4.0 with stock exhaust and Air intake for her High compression(9.1 to 1), and Hugely Port and Polish with valve lap, new pistons, rings, etc.

They are out of Ea029 Air Filters in Portland, and apparently everywhere, because for the last 2 1/2 weeks I havent been able to order a case because they are backordered, blast-It-all. What will I do? Order a K&N HIGH performance Intake and Filter Kit! Or two...

That is certainly an impressive collection of two smokes.

Do you have any pics to share?

Specifically the RD's.

Sweeet!

I really like the orange RD400, my buddy had one back in the day and I rode it a few times. It had an amazing power band unlike anything that I have experienced!

Combine that with the sound and the smell of the exhaust....it was amazing.

Unfortunately the RD400 and I were not destined for a long term relationship because I am 6'-5" and the RD's are better suited for the 5'-9" crowd.

Great pics. Thanks for sharing them.

Yeah, they're different machines alright.

They kind of represented the period when they were introduced.

Not a lot forethought, win at any cost, make it happen and to [censored] with the consequences. It was a wild time back in the late '60s early '70s. No overbearing regulatory bodies, no political correctness. Just go out and do it! Gotta say, I miss those days.

Thanks to everyone for the compliments on the bikes.

If You can Find it, Mobil 1 Orange Label 2-Stroke is 1 of the Best, or Lucas Semi-Synthetic 2 Stroke oil is good, both work for Pre-mix or Injection. I only have 1 bottle of the Mobil 1 left, and havent been able to find any more anywhere! Oh, no...
