oil for short trips

I would be comfortable using either 5w30 or 5w40.

Without knowing what kind of car it is I can't be more specific.

Though you can use European based websites to help with your selection.

Mobil, Shell, Morris, Comma and Opieoils amongst many others have an online oil finder.

With the hot temperatures in Greece I must admit to edging more towards 5w40.

sort of piggybacking on a related question...

I have a stash of GC 0w30 and BC 0w40 that I collected during the AAP BOGO syntec sale.
Does it make more sense to save these 0w oils and use them during the winter months (car is garaged except when parked at work) and use a 5w LL01 oil (BMW Castrol or Pennz. UE 5w40) during the summer months? (Loc: NC)

I agree!

Using an inexpensive dino oil with more frequent servicing.

Good luck with your ride.

Just use the cheapest one, because it's a myth that an 0/30 will cause less cold start wear than a 5/30. It would need to be below minus 25C to make a difference. In fact in your temps I would use a cheap 10/40.
As the use is severe service, I would change the oil at least two or even three times as often as the recommended max, but leave the oil filter on for the full OCI.
If you are stuck having to do short trips, there are two things that might help, firstly a block or sump heater for the winter and a Sunday morning blast on the highway to clean out the cylinders. Also do some reading on spray in Carbon cleaners, just in case the engine fouls up.

Why do you want to put some very expensive 0w/5w synthetic oils in Greece ? Use any 10w40 commonly available à 3€/l and change every 5000/7000 km ...

I live in Sweden and use a CF-4/SF mineral tractor oil 10w30 all year long whith short trips, as low at -20°C, without problem, except fuel dilution, with no more wear as others...I just have to change oil often because of fuel.

My UOA is here: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2977538

is it ok to use a 5w30 oil, if from the first oil change and until today(that will be 10 years and 90.000miles)i was using 10w40 and 5w40 oils?

With all the short trips that you take, a 5w30 will likely be better for you. If your driving habits change towards a more balance of city and highway driving, then consider a 0W-40 or 5W-40.

a 5w30 is synthetic and far more expensive with no gain except 1% of fuel consumption, which is nothing... No need to invest in synthetic oil to change it every 5000 km...

Greece is not Alaska, a 10w40 semi synthetic will be fine enough...Better than a 30 in summer, and ok in warm winters.

If you want to be sure, run 5000 km with a 10w40, and send a sample to Blackstone for UOA (it cost 30€ with postage) and look.

5l of 10w40 + UOA will be less expensive than 5l of synthetic 5w. And it is better to have an UOA than to do a blind choice...

Oil prices and common grades are far different in Europe than in USA, and what it is cheap in USA is not in Europe... 10w40 is the best compromise in europe between quality and price, and good enough for 10 000 km OCI. Synthetic oils are far more expensive en Europe.
