Does it consume or leak with that 0w30? Mines got 155,000 with unk maint. history

No, I had a slight leak at the push rod cover gasket which I resolved. 0W30 seems to be just fine.

I had an '87 F150 with the 300c.i. I-6 'back in the day'.

4-speed manual. 13mpg city/13 mpg hwy. 0-60mph in 5.5 minutes. Top speed around 82 mph.

The engine was OK, it was the fuel injection system that sucked. Sold the truck after it caught fire. (My stepdad was driving, I was following in my mom's car) I was only 16 but I nearly had a heart attack.

I think I only changed the oil 2 or 3 times before the fire. IIRC, I used Castrol GTX 10w30 or 10W-40.

no need for high zinc.. no need for special anything.. they'll live forever on whatever you put in it..

funny story 93-96 F-series including the 300 were back spec'd to a 5w20.

I find it funny how after 1 post ^^^, yvon's mind changes from this:

My fiancee's son recently had a 96 F150 4x4 with the 4.9L and I used 10w30 Pennzoil High Mileage in it for the roughly three years he had it. On the last OC, her son accidently used the Motorcraft 5W-20 that was for my 14 Mustang GT. Her dad now owns the truck and it still has the MC 5W-20 in it. Truck seemed to run fine with the lower viscosity. Truck has around 150,000 miles on it.

It aint picky. But the oil pumps can get flaky with high miles.
Replace the pumps and they will run forever on anything.

That said I always ran a 10W30 HDEO in it. Shell Rotella T5 is the easiest of that to find now.

Both my 1980 and 1989 spec'd 10w30, that's what I used. I found out that in the winter the engine cranked faster and was much quieter with Mobil 1 10w30 and a Motorcraft oil filter rather than with the orange Fram and Castrol GTX 10w30. I just continued to use the Mobil 1 and Motorcraft filter all the time. I sold the 89 in 2002 and it's still running using that oil/filter combo, though the poor thing looks like h**l. My friend bought new a 1993 F-150 with the 6 and it called for 5w30. It ran just fine and probably started easier in the winter, negating the use of synthetic 10w30 oil.

Mobil1 ep 10w30 .thinner then the 5w30 at 100 yet thicker then the 5w30 at 150 hths.and viscosity # is only 147 so it should be very stable
