Oil filter recommendations for 2018 Ram 1500 Hemi.

Hey guys, sorry if this has been asked before but what’s a good oil filter for these later-model 5.7’s that’s actually the filter size the truck calls for?

For the most part, I’ve just been using the Wix XP 57060 but due to the fact that I was told their quality is not what they used to be being that they got bought out in 2016 by that Mann and Hummel company and also due to the fact that being that my oil changes are only 5500 to 6000 miles long, the XP version of that filter doesn’t make sense according to a Wix technical support person due to the fact that it has less filtration for longer intervals.

I’ve also used the royal purple 10–48 a couple of times but since I was told that it was a clone of the Amsoil-branded filter that Amsoil no longer recommends for my truck, I don’t think I wanna go back to using that one.

Other than that, the only other oil filters I’ve used was the exact Mopar OE filter.

I ran Fram Endurance until they became meh. Now I'm running Carquest Blue, premium filter, reasonable price.

I used them on 10k+ OCIs

what's wrong with the OEM Mopar ones? My son uses an AC Delco on his 2023 Hemi because he can't get the OEM Mopar one easily.

Yeah, but I don’t do 10,000+ mile oil changes or even anything close to that. My oil gets changed between 5500-6,000 miles so being that some filters don’t filter as much for long OCI’s, that’s why I felt it necessary to ask for filter recommendations for shorter intervals.

I’ve read a lot online that the Mopar oil filter for these engines wasn’t very great, but maybe that was only just an applications of changing your oil upwards of 10,000 miles. As far as how good they are for much shorter intervals, that I don’t know. I do have a Mopar oil filter at home that I’ve had for about four years that I’ve never used and I’ve actually considered using that on my next oil change just to get rid of it, but I bought it on Amazon for a pretty good price.

If you have an Amazon account, there’s quite a few in there for decent prices. The part number is 4892339AA but according the to this Mopar site, that part number above is interchangeable with the 4884900AB, 04892339AB, 04892339AA, 04892339AB and the 04892339BE so whichever of those you find on Amazon should work.

I don’t either but the price and quality can’t be beat. Plus you get 99.5% efficiency at 20 microns.

I've been running Fram Ultra's on my 2016 with no issues. Swapping over to Champ XL's on the next change. Decided to try something different and ordered a stash of those from RA since everyone seems to like them.

I think the whole site jumped from the ChampXL bandwagon to the Premium Guard the day after I ordered 12+ of the champs.. But at least I get the satisfaction of a Made in USA filter.

Yes, definitely. That’s actually why I was interested in the regular Wix 57060 instead of the XP version was due to the higher filtration the non-XP version has.

But after looking at the Premium Guard PG2222, I see that one is for only up to 5000 mile OCI’s but it says it’s 15-25 micron.

PGI's website shows the regular PG filter having an efficiency of 93% @ 25 microns, so not real efficient compared to their extended life filters. If you want the higher efficiency, then get a Carquest Premium, MicroGard Select, Premium Guard Extended Life, or STP XL which are all made by PGI.

Sometimes you have to pay a few more bucks for a better filter that has higher efficiency.

FWIW, I get nervous buying filters off of Amazon. I worry about fraud or knockoffs.

Yeah but does that apply to all filters though? Wix, for example, told me their plain 57060 for my truck filters better than the XP version of that filter and the reason why was because the XP was made for longer intervals.
