Oil Consumption Check-in!

2011 nissan xterra 210000 miles - no consumption

5000 mile oil and filter changes with whatever is on sale.

Can we go back in time? My parent's 84 Caravan 2.2 1 qt every 125 miles. If there wasn't a crosswind it made a blue column down the road.

My Chev Trailblazer seems to drink half a litre in 20 - 24,000km when running PPPP 5w30. I don't recall having to add any when running Castrol or Quaker State. 245,000km.

My 3500 doesnt drink any during the 24k index. 82k.

Now my C1500 loses about 1 litre in the last 7k km. 379k.

That's what you get for using that fake synthetic...

Replaced by an engine also known to use lots of oil as it ages. Next up: no more Hyundai/Kia junk! Lol

2015 Jeep Cherokee, 3.2 Pentastar with 68,000 miles, 5w20 Valvoline Synthetic HM for almost all of those miles at 5k OCI's - no noticeable consumption.

Just sold: 2004 Dodge 1500 SLT, 5.7 with 100,500 miles, 5K OCI's with Super Tech 5w30 for about the first 50,000 and Super Tech HM 5w30 the rest of those miles - no noticeable consumption.

2010 GMC 1500, 5.3L, 4x4, 5W30 syn-blend, and a little aggressive driver... I would say I burn about 1qt @ 4K'ish. I just don't count, I just check the dipstick and level it out whenever I come to think of it. As for this truck, the REASON for the oil consumption is I have that (I don't know what those are called) 8cyl-to-4cyl thing. I know it can be turned off (disabled), but I just leave it alone. Just recently, I was losing oil pressure, so the mechanic took the oil pan off and replaced the o-ring (said it's common problem for chevys, hot/cold cause it to shrink). There was medium oil deposits (not too bad since I often change oil at 30% life left), so all that was cleaned out. Oh, 130K mileage as of now.

LOL that's what I was thinking...

My daughter's 2004 jeep liberty uses a qt every 500 miles. Changed pcv etc. Suspect valve stem seals.
Use mag1 high mileage 5w30

1995 Corvette LT1, 78k miles, no noticeable oil consumption.
2006 Tacoma 2.7, 160k miles, no noticeable oil consumption.

2001 Tahoe 177k, 5/30 blend.

Dipstick is down 1/2 quart on a 5 k change. I do have a weep in the rear main seal, which I threw a bottle of Blue Devil in. Might try a 2nd brand, as I'll be changing in about 3 weeks.

97 Integra, 267k, Mobil2 drained out from IS250 (10w30 + 5w20) and Prius V (0w20 + 5w20) once a year change + top off 1 qt every 2 months, it consumes about 1 qt every 1k or so. I change the filter every 3 months. It is on borrowed time and it doesn't owe me anything.

At this point I feel like you may owe it something.

1995 Ford Escort, 260K miles. Leaks one quart in around 900-1000 miles. I think it's an oil pan leak. Probably not worth fixing unless I have to remove the catalytic converter for something else, because oil is cheap. This is only disappointing because I recently replaced the head gasket, and in the process also fixed an oil leak on the valve cover, and I also replaced the oil pressure sending unit which was leaking oil. While the parts if the engine affected by those two oil leaks remains clean, there is still a lot of oil over the rest, and it didn't seem to reduce my oil loss in a measurable way.
5W-30 high mileage regular (not synthetic). I don't care about the brand.

2001 Volvo V70 XC - 251K miles. Added 1 quart of M1 5W-30 EP at 4200 miles.

This was a no makeup oil vehicle up to about 200K, but it's gone up dramatically since then. Not sure where it is going. It's not on the driveway, and the tail end isn't black or oily either.

2015 Chevy Sonic 1.8l - No oil added on a 4500 - 5000 mile OCI - Synthetic - ~ 70,000 miles on the odometer

2006 Buick Lacrosse 3.8i - No oil added on a 3000 mile OCI - Dino oil - ~ 50,000 miles on the odometer
