I went to the dealership today for an oil change on my "07" impala w/5500 mi, I supplied the goods with 5qts PP 5w30 / wix o/f and a/f , All went well except that I forgot 1qt of 5 qts of PP (it takes a little over 4.5 qts), so the tech put in 1/2 qt of what they had in shop to complete the fill. I would think they used M1.. Big deal or not? I was going to do an UOA on this fill ..
And is PP a good oil to use when I go by the OLM or is M1 a better choice next time ?

Thanks for all your advice ! !

Since you switched to synthetic, might want to run the next OCI out to 7.5K. I would stick with that ritual - at least until the warranty expires. You don't need a fancy filter. Next time, purchase a NAPA Gold or Pure one. They usually run a few dolars less.

I was told by Wix that Napa Gold is made by them and are spec. the same ..

Wix#51522 @ $5.84 / Bumper to Bumper which priced matched fleetfilter.com

N/G#1522 @ $7.70 / Napa

My info says they are the same, too. I run a similar WIX for 15,000 miles before changing. The insolubles were 0.2 at 7500 as well as at 15,000. Upon cutting both filters open, although the 15000 mile filter material was perhaps just a tad darker...structurally, they looked the same. Good filter.

You changed the air filter at 5,500 miles? Wow!!

I know I did not have to change it this early , but I just wanted to put in a better filter .. Starting from this point on(5500 mi),I will change them at the right intervals .

Why would you supply the parts to the dealer? If you went through the trouble of gathering the parts, might as well do the job your self.

Who is to say that the tech at the dealer put in the oil you gave them and not kept it for him self and put the stuff they get for pennies from the distributor?

Back on topic, I don't believe there adding a half qt of what they had to be a big deal. You're fine. Just as if you had lost a half qt, you could top up with what you have on hand.

No trouble for me at all to supply the goods from the auto parts store (right around the corner from my house) it's what I want in my car so I don't mind .
I have been going to them since 1989 , so I trust them and wouldn't think they would switch oil on me or anyone else because they are HIGHLY RESPECTED around town! Plus they only charge me $5.00 ! I guess it's all about TRUST .kinda hard to find places like that today , so thats why I have them do it..

i guess at a dealer i would never worry about the oil filter as they normally would put on an AC Delco which is a filter that is normally held at high regards
