Oh
So its starting to get cold up here in Cleveland and getting my oil changed at a shop is becoming more and more appealing for the 21.95 they charge. The place I get alot of my work done on the 07 Grand Cherokee 3.7 said they use bulk Kendall Semi-synthetic.

I've been using PYB regularly. Is the Kendall ok, decent to use. Any issues with the semi-synthetic....leaks...ect....

Thanks for any feedback.....

Ask them if you bring in PYB and filter, how much do they charge for labor ? If it's $10 or less then I would bring oil and filter of my choice.

Kendall oil is excellent oil. $21.95 for a OC using Kendall blend is a very fair price. My only concern would be what filter are they using( i.e. brand )?

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, I wondered about the filter also. I did think about asking to bring my own in as long as the Kendall was decent........

Ive always wanted to do that but have never worked up the nerve to ask.

Conoco/Phillips/76/Kendall is good oil. It is the equal of PYB and every other standard oil. Use it and sleep well at night.

Maybe they will put your filter on, or maybe they'd rather get the filter of your choice for you. But I doubt they can knock much more than a buck or two off the bill for not using their filter, which might be something like a Champ.

Are you the Johnny that used to work for Penzoil? If so please stop changing your avatar every other day. Makes it hard to know if it is you or not.

If it is you then this may be one of the few times, if not the only time, I have to disagree with you. I strongly disagree that any filter they use will be good for 5K. There are some really cheap junk filters out there and they get used in deals like this all the time( around here anyway ). I wouldn't run for 2K let alone 3K. I suspect based on the $21.95 price for a blend OC it includes a really cheap filter.

When I worked at the dealer we did cheap OC's( $9.99 back then in early 90's ). The filters were some no name cheap thing that we got through one of the warehouses we used and they were horrendous. We paid almost nothing for them( the owner was a cheap and slimey guy - we hated using them in parts and service ). I wouldn't have used one on a Tonka toy.

Before having them do the OC I would try and find out what brand of filter.

I agree with that...There is no deal like that down here in the jungle.

. I'm the only Johnny that has been a member since May 27, 2002, avatar or no avatar.

Also, I've never seen a filter that cheap or poorly made, but then I don't go around inspecting filters.

Ok, to follow up, I went ahead and had the oil change from the shop (actually had a coupon for $19.95.....$22.25 out the door).

I know this is a bit off topic for this forum but the conversation went this way.........the oil filter they used is a AC Delco PFL400AF with the Kendall Semi Synthetic.

Any opinions/comments/suggestions on the oil filter?

Sounds good on paper. Probably a quart low.

Also check if they actually did it. Heard scary stories at quick change shops. Just watch investigative shows & you tube.
