"Officer, I didn't realize how fast I was going."

I would have told the Police Officer:

1) There was a Grass-Hopper on my windshield and I wanted to see how fast I had to go before he blew off.

OR

2) I just released my Homing Pigeons and was racing them home. If you let me go now, I can still win.

140 is the governor speed for police vehicles I thought. Isn't civillian in the 120's? Or is it just for US bound models? Sounds like a case of the typical faux news.140 on snow and ice without incident? God must be his co-pilot.

Still 140? That is stupid.

I bet it has the 305 HP 3.6. That would do it pretty easily.

I thought that too but from what I saw at various web sites the Malibu only got the 4 cylinder with up to 259 horsepower.

But I agree - IF he was anywhere close to 140 he was beyond stupid!

I think the 3.6 in my Impala would do 140 pretty easy. I've had it up to 80 and the tach was only about 1900 RPMs.

I am surprised as well.

Looking at Car and Driver's recent test results for Malibus, they had two that were governed at 128 & 130 mph, and two others (both 2.0 l turbos) that were drag limited to 145 and 155 mph.

So yeah, it's theoretically possible that the guy was going as fast as the Mountie said he was.

It was actually CTV in Canada that reported the arrest. No, Brian Williams is not or has never worked at Fox.

Faux manages to tell more lies in a day than lying Mr. Williams has told in a lifetime.

Cripes my 8000lb pickup has hit 140, verified by GPS. Why cant a light car do that, factory speed limiters can be removed with a little programming.

You can easily disable those speed governors with a mod chip. Not that I'd ever chance going over 100 in a GM made car, ever.

The Canadian TV report has to be a typo..Canada has used KPH since 1977 ..makes sense if the Chevy Malibu was doing 140kph or 87mph..that sounds about right.

I'm not sure of the law in NB, but it sounds similar to ours. The car is impounded for a week to start, as is his license, then he will go to court and face the charges. I've heard of $10k fines and year long license suspensions and I believe its possible to have the car seized as well.
The car was a rental too, so he'll be on the hook for the weeks' rental and if its seized, he might have to pay for it too.

THE WHITE HOUSE - Despite the President's promise of a swift and decisive victory, Obama's War on Fox News has developed all signs of an unwinnable quagmire, making the White House even more isolated in its unilateral attempts to crush the growing media insurgency. As the war continues to grind on for a second month, public opinion is shifting towards a quick and complete withdrawal. While many observers still agree that the "War on Limbaugh" is a "just and necessary war," even the former supporters of the war effort are now labeling the War on Fox an "unnecessary war of choice" and claim that the cable channel had nothing to do with Obama's falling approval numbers.
