Ok here's the story.
Bought an '04 GMC Canyon with about 56.5K miles. After a week the check engine light went on. Brought it back to the dealer and finally yesterday after 4 and a half weeks got my truck back. The following work was done:
Replaced valve springs
Replaced cylinder head
Replaced timing chain and tensioner
Drain and fill radiator fluid
Then some other misc. things.
Oil change with Mobil 5000 and I'm not sure what oil filter but the but number was MP166 on the service list. I'm thinking that it's the mobil extended performance.
I'm going to run M1 synthetic with Napa gold filter for my next OC. Question is how long do I go with this one? 3k, full 5k, or shorter? Want the synthetic oil, but I'm not going to waste good oil.

By the way the truck is mainly driven to and from work about 3 miles each way. Total miles are less than 10 per day with the occasional (every 3-4 months) trip out of town.

Yikes ! I'd wait to see if that truck makes it through the most recent OCI first !! As little as you drive I would say a 5K mile OCI or 6 months - whichever comes first .

Due to the "lemon Law" here in MT, all vehicles are sold with a 30 day/1000 mile warranty. There's supposed to be a $100 deductible for it, but they didn't charge me that. All told the bill came to about $3200. I didn't pay a dime.

All that just for a CEL? Did they actually "check" the codes??? Sounds like some drastic repairs for a simple CEL.....?

yeah i know right?

Ya they did check the codes. Of course by the time I got it to the dealer the CEL was off, so it took them a few hours to get it back on. They found a misfire in one of the cylinders and found a TSB on it. Then after they put it all back together they had trouble with the timing chain, so they had to fix/replace the chain and tensioner.
