Ok, I know Maxlife full syn is group 3, that's not the question. Valvoline recommends factory specified OCIs even when using their full synthetic oils, specifically maxlife full syn. Car is an 2002 Subaru Forester, 2.5L boxer with just over 100k on the clock. I just changed the oil and put in the syn Maxlife and a Purone filter. Changing that after only 3500 miles seems to be way too soon given that I let the M1 in my old Chevy go for about 7500 between changes. Engine seems to be in pretty good shape, it does not leak a single drop and does not consume hardly any oil between changes. No smoke obviously, runs smooth, no noises.

What do you guys think a realistic OCI should be in the Subie with the Maxlife full syn?

thanks!

I think you can run 7500 miles safely without UOA. Even the Maxlife Synthetic Blend can run 7500 miles in a V6. The only exceptions to this might be the few of he sludger engines that are known to trash oils.

A nice UOA of the synthetic-blend (Maxlife) that was 7,381 miles in a V6, and the oil was still good for continued use.

UOA …

Blackstone's comments: … . Insolubles (oil oxidation due to heat, use and blow-by) were low at 0.3%, showing good oil filtration. We see no reason not to run the next oil a little longer. The TBN read 1.9 so you had some active additive remaining but not too much. Try 8,000 miles next time and check back for another look.

I ran 2 cars over the winter on the Syn for ~7k with a M1 filter. I don't see why you couldn't go that long, if not longer.

At my local Kragen's. I've also seen it on occasion at Wally's.

Valvoline says it is their Synpower with extra seal conditioners and detergents.

I found a single 5 quart jug of the 10w30 full syn at Walmart the other day. The dude stocking the shelves said it was the only jug that came in. I hadn't seen any at any Walmart in probably 6 months.

I grabbed some last year at W-M. Have not seen it since.
