o2 Sensor finally went

"P0141 - Oxygen O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction"

That was the exact problem with the '97 Honda Del Sol I spoke of previously (except the sensor was an upstream, pre-cat sensor).

It's a pretty unusual failure (in my experience). The heater inside the o2 sensor went open-circuit.

Of course, there is also the possibility that the circuit is open-circuit elsewhere, but that's also pretty rare--something like a chafed wiring harness could cause that.

You could use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is really the cause of the problem. Disconnect it from the harness. There should be a few ohms or less of resistance between the two like-colored wires.

Yeah I don't want this to turn out to be a "project". Thanks for the advice.

I used a Walker sensor to replace the one on the Del Sol.

OEM for Honda is probably Denso. They are available in the aftermarket.

Picked up an OEM sensor.

One thing I'm noticing, and I have no idea if it's related to this, but I am hearing a faint rattle sound coming from the CAT area (I think). Hmmm

cat could be failing. a coworker of mine had a severe rattle coming from the cat. i pulled it off and the entire outer.. hmm.. maybe 1" of the diameter of the thing was GONE. the center portion was left and it looked melted on the edges.

For the rattle.....before thinking that it is the insides of the cat......see if it might be a heat shield....
The heat shields are normaly "tack" welded in place....and with all the heat cycles, it is common for these to break.
The solution that I have used (actually got it from a FORD TSB...and figured that I could do it myself).....I get straps......that are like hose clamps on steroids......
You can get these straps at the hardware store.
You might need just one.....or 2, depending upon your application.

Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

I am concerned though that the CAT is going. I hear a faint rattling sound coming from that area/or in the dash. Haven't located it yet.
