Unreadable!

For your viewing pleasure. This is readable but all that krazing. Very industrial style, 1976 was better, liked 1970 do the NM color theme.

Our license plates were kind of busy:

Oil derricks, cowboy, space shuttle, and the "stars at night" but the new ones:

I don't like them at all.

I might have to spend the extra money to get a specialty plate:

Yeah, PA isnt on the top of my list as a good plate. I always liked the "You've got a friend in PA" plates. NJ isnt the best, but it also looks the same as has been used since the 1950s, so Im OK with that. I liked the blue with buff letters the best.

I have these currently:

My grandparents are still using their plate from 1961, what stinks is that you cant transfer a plate from one person to another in NJ.

They should have had the cowboy riding the Space Shuttle, and then made the state song (state native) Steve Miller's "Space Cowboy".

Oil derricks, cowboy, space shuttle...

I always saw an irony in those plates. Is that the Columbia just before it disintegrated over the Texas sky?

oppirs, the example you have is actually pretty clean compared to what I've seen passing as a license plate from the new stock! Apparently the vendor cheaped-out on something and the first batch went bad much quicker than expected....then again if Illinois replaced plates more than once every 15 years or so it might not be an issue.....

I like some of the Illinois specialty plates, but thanks to former governor Blago, I don't plan to ever buy one. He made the comment once that since people are willing to pay extra for vanity/specialty plates, that means the state isn't charging enough for the standard ones and the costs should go up. So I won't want to give our current "governor" the wrong impression and encourage that thinking.

I do plan on getting AV plates for the Ranger in 2019 though, since it will be old enough and is barely driven, and it will actually work out less expensive for me.

opus1,

I have looked at the AV plate for my Harley when it turned 25 last year. Nice to pay once for 3 years of registration.

But there lies the evil.... You can only drive from show to home to show. No daily street driving.
