My wife and I have have struggled to have children...not really ever sure of the reason. (Doctors blamed the BC) So five years ago, we were overjoyed to find out we were going to have a baby boy! And he's been nothing but great since...

After he was born, we really wanted to aim for just one more, so he would have a brother or sister. We were told our chances weren't that great, and we refused any kind of drugs to try to help with that (long story there). So, after saying it was time to call it quits....last week the wife was a bit moody. (more than usual

) So, for heck of it, she took a test. After the tears and hugs, we'll soon have an addition to our family!

Made for good timing on the house too....

congrats.
just goes to show how things pop up when least expected, and not to give up trying.

few cases in point:

my one buddy, He was the "senior year surprise" for his parents, who then intentionally waited 8 years or so before they had his sister (he was 9 when she was born), then they got another surprise 6 years after that(he was 15 when his little bro was born) 2 out of 3 completely unplanned.

My sister got married in 98, started trying right away, took better part of 3 years before they got pregnant with my nephew.(2001) after he was out of diapers they started trying again. finally got pregnant again in mid 2008, nephew was 8 when his little sis was born.

My Cousin has a grown(early 20's) Son from her first marriage, got remarried in 97. she and her husband tried for years on end with no luck. She finally got pregnant in early 2008 with her daughter.(who is about 6 mo older than my niece) - when her husband got past the initial joy of finally having a kid of his own, he suddenly realized "now I'll never be able to retire", they'll be about retirement age when she graduates HS.
(quick recap- cousin has a 20 something son, a 4yr old daughter, and a 1 yr old granddaughter)

so you can either take those as "never stop trying", or "Don't try, if you TRY to have a kid, it won't happen until you give up trying."
either way...

Congratulations!

My experience has been that 'giving up' often lets people relax enough to allow nature to take its course. Either that, or after the first one your aim gets better.

I thought this was going to be like my story of my college girlfriend turning 21 when I took her and her best friend out for a night on the town.

Having a Jan 1 birthday is a blessing and a curse. That night for me it was a blessing

Anyway, congrats on the good news!

Congrats Dave!

My trying was good(wife got pregnant after 1 try) with our 1st son, and for 2nd one it was more or less same situation...

As my boyz going through schooling now, I think I'm done so I'm gonna get the snip-snip job sometime this year.

Congrats! Two is a good number. Even though there will be rough patches, I think having a sibling is a good thing.

My sister and I put each other through [censored] for a little while (while simultaneously being partners in crime), but eventually got to a point where we could relate to each other and now get along great.

Yeah, I think two might be the limit..more than that can be crazy..(wife has a big family on her side)

So they each have someone to count on (we hope) as they get older...

About the same situation for us.....getting ready to go in vitro and then BAM....beautiful baby girl!!!! She's now 9 and 3rd grade homework is killing me.....

After 8 yrs,we decided to try for kids. My eldest son was born in '81. The twins, a boy and a girl, were born in 84. I got fixed in '85. As hard as it is to control raging hormones in your 20s, I suggest couples get used to each other before adding a baby to the mix.
