No more oil changes

I have read that Briggs give trouble starting when hot, I haven't had that issue "I'll count my blessings" there.

I have a Craftsman mower serial number and stamping on the engine are dated 2012, my mower was left to me by the previous homeowners.. I just gave it a good looking over the first season I got my paws on it.

I am going to check the Briggs owners manual to see if there is-if any adjustment for the auto-choke which is a piece of temperature sensitive spring steel that uses ambient and exhaust temps to adjust closure and opening.

Thermostat choke replacement/adjustment

I still change the oil in mine.

How much does your mower consume?

I have a small Briggs like the one in the OP on my pressure washer and a 18.5 in my mower. Neither consume any oil since switching to M1 15W-50.

Isn't this referred to as the continuous oil change, or does that only refer to a leak?

Received this mower for Father's Day . Same no oil change engine .

But the owner's manual says change the oil after the initial 5 hours and every 50 hours there after .

So which is correct , the advertising or the owner's manual ?

I will be changing the oil . Probably with 5w30 or 10w30 I have on hand . It came with a little bottle of 30 weight B&S , which is what it gas in it now .

The little B&S OHV engine seems to have more power than the previous mowers I have had .

Have an old high rear wheel 22" push mower I bought back in 1989 with a Tecumseh 5 hp engine. Changed the oil end of every mowing season, used whatever XW-30 synthetic I was using in my vehicles at the time. It's got 5w30 synthetic in it now. Darn thing just won't quit working.

I have heard Tecumseh engines are good engines .

I had figured on using 5w30 dino oil in the Snapper . Upon reviewing the manual , 5w30 synthetic shows to cover the entire temperature tange .

It's simply a way to sell more engines.
.....
Engines have always far outlasted the decks so now they
want engines to burn up sooner to keep their profits up.

That is exactly what I was thinking .

IIRC, I used some 20w50 dino in the 11 hp B+S i/c vertical on the sitdown. I also used it in the 25 yr old Toro 20622 walk behind trimmer. That was around the last mowing of '17. Neither one uses much oil and car oil stays clean on both dip sticks. I use 5w30 dino in the Predator on my snow blower. It has a pull start only and started after a night out with temps in the teens. If it doesnt start by the 3rd pull, I forgot to turn the gas on. The old Toro makes me smile when I take it out every week and it starts on the first pull.

Oh yeah. OMC Lawn-Boy 2-stroke for the win! Just picked up a 1975 7225 with the D601 engine. Doing a complete rebuild on it. Real mowers.

If you're gonna throw the mower away after 5 years and get another one, then there's no point in changing the oil.

I, on the other hand, am still using a 16 year old cheapo push mower. It's a Craftsman with a Honda GCV160 engine and cost around $160 when it was new. It gets an oil change once a year and doesn't consume any oil. Amazing what even a tiny bit of maintenance will do.

I do have a B&S 675 exi engine on which I'm not supposed to have to change the oil according to the sticker on it.

I DO change it every season. First change after about 2 years of use some thick grey goo came out.
